Buzzbaiter Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Went mucking around the mangroves this morning in Tampa Bay. I ended the day with a solid red and two snook, one of which was tiny and wasn’t photographed. It was a slow day, but I caught a couple of good fish.   ^two shots of the same snook 18 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted December 3, 2023 Super User Posted December 3, 2023 Fished 3 days out of PV. Landed 25 Dorado, 2 sailfish, and 2 tuna. We spent one night drifting out on the fishing grounds rather than returning to an anchorage. In the middle of the night a porpoise jumped in to the boat. Was a real rodeo getting it back in the water. Another first in my life as a fisherman.  18 2 Quote
MassBass Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I set off in the rain across the river, far up a tributary to the kettle pond. It was only the beginning of my journey, but already my hands were cold. For a passing moment I thought I should turn back, but this is what I wanted on a free weekend- low light conditions and wet weather. I had already gone all the way around the pond with a spinner and a mouse imitation, with no signs except a big rise a way out. Some guys soaking bait said nothing. There was a flock of some kind of ducks far out in the middle of a wide cove, diving and being very active.  In a last ditch effort, I tied on the only thing with a potential to reach, a big casting spoon. Even though it's heavy, with the erratic wobble it can ride up in the water and above the weeds. I was bringing it in, a little too fast and it broke surface, but then there was a fish's swirl on it- I kept bringing it in quick and I see a good fish following it right up to shore- with no more water I hold it dangling from my rod inches from shore, and it takes it. In the moment I was surprised the fish took it, I wait briefly and lightly set the hook and drag the fish up, where it quickly came off the hook and almost escaped back into the cold waters.  I made tiger trout white rice.  16 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted December 6, 2023 Super User Posted December 6, 2023 If it's any consolation, I started the afternoon out bass fishing. Hit two areas close to the ramp - nothing. Slid out over some deep water just to peek...and that was the beginning of the end for the bass fishing today   Up to 1.5 lbs.     21 Quote

Super User GreenPig Posted December 9, 2023 Super User Posted December 9, 2023 Had a friend guide me on some Blue cats today. First time I'd ever trolled for catfish with chicken. I had a ball and he was nice enough to let me fight 18 out of 20, one being a 15.3 lber. All cats below I caught even though he's holding them after netting them for me. 19 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted December 9, 2023 Super User Posted December 9, 2023 The struggle continues... I took my Granddaughter to Piedmont yesterday hoping get her her first muskie. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it done. We found a couple mega schools of shad, were marking muskie in the schools, but couldn't get bit. The lake was murky which really surprised me, it usually has at least 5' visibility and sometimes up to 15' or so. Yesterday visibility all over the lake was 2'. Not good for chucking an A-Rig.  On the upside, it was her first time throwing a baitcaster and she did fantastic. One backlash was it, and it wasn't bad. She was getting pretty good distance too. No fish, but we had a ball anyway. It was the first time we've got to spend a day together in quite awhile.  Today at Leesville was much the same. I was around lots of fish, but getting bit was a challenge. No visibility issues here, just tight lipped fish. Ended up with the thick, beautifully colored 36" pictured below and had another hard bite that didn't hookup.  Also had several deep follows on the rig. I tried deep 8's with it, dropping a 7" tube to 'em, and throwing back to them with a glide but no dice. They'd deep follow the rig to the boat and just sit there about 10' down taunting me.  23 3 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 12, 2023 Super User Posted December 12, 2023 Getting some big bream. The little redbreast was beautiful. I’m glad to see them, since I don’t have a big population of them anymore. Got a bonus bullhead as the sun sank…    18 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 13, 2023 Global Moderator Posted December 13, 2023 Hit the river again this past weekend with Tony. Water temps were 44-45. It was as fast as we could get a bait in the water when we got to the first spot. 4 blues and a flathead. I don't normally do "Hero Shots", but each one was biting as soon as the bait would hit bottom and I wasn't having time to release the previous fish, so we ended up with 5 of them laying on the bank. All released after the pictures.  Then the switch turned off, and we didn't catch another bigger catfish the rest of the day. The second spot does hold lots of everything, and I caught several fish on a jigging spoon, casting and snapping it back. One of those catches was a fish the state list as of "Conservation Concern". I've only ever caught 2 or 3 before, so this blue sucker was a neat catch. 16 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted December 14, 2023 Super User Posted December 14, 2023 I got back yesterday from a two day trip out of PV. We landed 18 Dorado, one tuna, and one 350 pound blue marlin that was tagged and released.  We were fighting a dorado, my mate was reeling in a skip jack tuna we were trolling, when the blue hit only a few feet away from the boat. The marlin instantly went airborne giving every one on board a good show. Thanks to the exceptional skills of my 1st. mate, and a little luck we were able to land both the dorado and the Marlin.  17 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 15, 2023 Super User Posted December 15, 2023 Always amazed that you love Bass fishing so much after catching so many pelagic fish, especially Billfish @king fisher   I always say it to you, but you've somehow managed to figure out a way to live the most blissful fishing life I could imagine!  Getting paid to captain a battlewagon in the Pacific, and when you don't have to work you're Bassin in Mexico.    2 1 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted December 15, 2023 Super User Posted December 15, 2023 Coming from a guy who Billfishes for a living, that's a heck of a statement and testament to just how special the LGM Bass is.   You're the only person I've personally known who fishes for Mexican DDs as a "native".  Known a bunch of folks who took a trip down there, but never a gringo living there and Bassin.     You're my fishing spirit animal no doubt....and I'm a cat guy not a bird one 🤣 1 1 Quote

My guide buddy included. Had fish all around me and couldn't even get a follow. My buddy guided his 9yo son to 4 including his new PB 45". Tickled for him. He's a great kid. I enjoyed watching him light 'em up. Bailed on that shenanigans after a few hours and went back to my bread and butter fishing structure. Managed this nice 43" on my favorite rock pile, and had four more follows. Follows were super aggressive, but they were being weird and taking short swipes at it in the 8. Finally got the 43 to commit around 1:30. Awesome bite. It came out of nowhere and absolutely smoked it in the first turn of the 8. Called it quits around 3. Tired of fighting the wind, hungry, and my hands and wrists are thrashed from chucking the rig 7 of the last 9 days. Just looked through the photos. Today's 43" is muskie #51 over 30" on the year, with 13 of them going 40" - 48.25". Looking like temps are fixing to crash. I'll get to fish five days next week, then who knows, every trip could be the last after that. I'm gonna stick it out as long as I can. I got some 6" and 7" tubes, and some 5" blade baits to go vertical with once icing guides get to be too big a PITA to cast.  Gosh, Tim, that's a LOT of fine, fine muskies. I'm so proud of you. 1 Quote
Buzzbaiter Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I went trout fishing in the Savage River Valley with a friend. We drove along a road that paralleled the main river (more like a stream) and hopped around a bunch of spots at several different bluelines. At the very first spot, I caught this native brook trout on a Panther Martin.   After that, I was obligated to put him on a fish. Small trout streams aren’t conducive to multiplayer fishing, so I had to play guide for most of the day. He’s not that experienced when it comes to fishing, so he struggled quite a bit. Casting in congested trickles of water is challenging as is; bluelining as a novice angler can be quite difficult, and is understandably frustrating. After spooking a great many char and casting into a great many trees, we decided to head downstream to fish more open water for rainbows. These were stocked fish (I think holdovers), but were fun nonetheless. I didn’t get on any, but my friend showed me up. He caught this rainbow on a Rooster Tail, and I netted the fish. I did a spectacular net job.  15 Quote
