RealtreeByGod Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Always love catching channel cats while fishing for bluegill to use as catfish bait. 10 Quote
Woody B Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 Another big Cat (at least big for me) today while bass fishing. Flathead 40 inches long, 32 pounds. This rascal took a while to land. It didn't roll and twist like most Cats do. It also didn't hug the bottom. It just took off and darted around like a nuclear power submarine. I thought I had a HUGE spotted bass for a while. I was fishing an offshore hump. It's 10' deep or so on top of the hump. One end has a rounded point going down the 25' or so. The other end has the channel dredged to feed cooling water for the Nuke plant. I was following/watching a school of shad on the point end of the hump. The top of the school was 2 feet or so under the surface. The bottom of the "ball" was ~8 feet deep. Fish started attacking the shad from below. I threw a DT6 into the mix and came up with the Cat. That's my 10th Cat over 10 pounds this year, all while Bass fishing. I caught a 53 pound Flathead last year. I wonder if I'll catch a bunch of big bass if I start targeting Catfish. On a side note. I've got a phone holder on my console I use for most pictures. I can't get a big fish like this Cat in a picture with it there. I've got another phone holder. I've got to position is somewhere else so I can get pictures holding BIG fish. 11 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 10, 2023 Super User Posted July 10, 2023 I ended up being a guide last Saturday for some friends. A couple of nice ones from the Atlantic on a great fishing day. 9 Quote
thediscochef Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Spent the weekend at 7700 feet in northwest Colorado. Hooked into some brook trouts and remembered how much better I am at bass fishing versus fly fishing...couldnt land any of them. Also caught Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a wood tick that was latched on way too long, but we have Doxycycline for that ? 9 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted July 11, 2023 Super User Posted July 11, 2023 @thediscochef dang. I’m on a round of doxycycline from a tick bite myself. Make sure you cover up when on the water - the stuff makes you super prone to sunburns. 2 Quote

I've taken doxy before, as a malaria preventative. Good stuff but full of fun and interesting side effects. I also just tested positive for Covid, first time dealing with that one. I don't feel good lol 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 11, 2023 Super User Posted July 11, 2023 Those pics bring back a lot of memories @thediscochef. I learned how to fish in the Breckinridge (about 10,000' above sea level) area back in the late '90's. Miss it very much! Sorry about the Covid thing, that sux. 1 Quote

Woody B Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 I got catfished again today. It was quite a bit smaller than the 32 pound Flathead last week. I didn't weigh or measure it. Small enough to boat flip though. FWIW I pretty much never weigh a fish I boat flip. If it's too heavy my rod might find out and decide to break. 9 Quote
