Super User A-Jay Posted May 2, 2022 Super User Posted May 2, 2022 Had some Brown Trout action today ~ A-Jay 16 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted May 3, 2022 Super User Posted May 3, 2022 I shared these in the bass pic thread too because I was bass fishing and caught a bass on the trip, but I’ll share them here too. Who knows how I didn’t get bit off on the pickerel. The closed mouth picture actually has my crank bait in his mouth. @A-Jay this is as close as I can get to those pretty golden walleye you catch. This perch at @13” was bigger than some of the walleye I’ve caught. That’s a half ounce chatterbait and a full length zako it inhaled. 11 Quote
The Bassman Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Encountered some bedding crappies today. These were the two largest. Nice change of pace but they don't compare to a bass's fight. 11 Quote
Super User gim Posted May 5, 2022 Super User Posted May 5, 2022 I caught some crappies this afternoon on my first outing of the season. Nothing real big, 11.5 inches was tops. My co-pilot had a good time too. It was glorious out there. I honestly didn't even need to catch a fish to enjoy it. 16 Quote
Aaron_H Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Not what I expected to catch on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait today, but I'll take it. Forgot my tape measure today, but it was a solid 9", laid out in my palm it measured from the tip of my middle finger to the start of my watchband. This is about the average size I catch from these ponds, plenty up to around 11". Zero fight on a MH rod, but always a nice surprise and the strikes are always super aggressive. It's getting about time to bust out the panfish gear and target them on some tougher days. 12 Quote
WVU-SCPA Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Was on a solid large mouth bite with them being on any wood extending in 3-4 fow. Crappie were on the same pattern. Was a enjoyable outing and eventually just switch over to targeting crappie and catching around 20 with some decent size. 15 Quote
hokiehunter373 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Took my 2 year old out and caught a quick limit of rainbows while we ate dinner. She’s hooked ? 20 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 7, 2022 Super User Posted May 7, 2022 Another friend brought his son over and caught some. Dustin hadn’t fished much before but could cast really well for an 8 year old. Think he had a good time, which was the goal… 19 Quote
TheBasslayer Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Yesterday I caught this big pike! Unfortunately he inhaled all 3 hooks of my jerkbait, so he may have died. I caught this bass as well! 11 Quote

I keep one in my boat at all times because pike are notorious for swallowing lures. They're cheap and effective. It looks like you may have been fishing off a dock in this case. 2 Quote

TheBasslayer Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Thanks for the ideas! I have some long pliers at my house, and I will buy a jaw spreader with my gift cards. 3 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 12, 2022 Super User Posted May 12, 2022 The jerkbait Pickerel bite was on fire today. They put a hurting on my Berkley Juke 11 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 16, 2022 Super User Posted May 16, 2022 I broke out my Abu Garcia Revo X with the aftermarket shallow spool paired with a Vendetta rod this weekend. Pitching a TRD TicklerZ Texas rigged on a 1/0 worm hook and 1/8 oz tungsten bullet weight. Drove the pickerel nuts 10 1 Quote
hokiehunter373 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Saturday morning my kids and I went out for an hour and caught 4 rainbows. I decided we needed a few more for a good meal so I went out Sunday morning for an hour. Caught my first palomino and a couple more rainbows to round out the feast. That golden is a beautiful freakin fish. 11 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted May 19, 2022 Super User Posted May 19, 2022 Been catching some mutant gills these past couple weeks on small swimbaits while bass fishing. About two more weeks when the new moon rolls through and these guys should be ganged up shallow and spawning. I'll be setting aside the bass gear for a short spell when it happens. I believe these are green sunfish/bluegill hybrids. Not sure if the cross is natural or they were stocked as hybrid gills (intentionally crossed). Have found them in 3 different HOA ponds now. 15 Quote

Had one pike grad a red eye shad but I pulled too quick and pulled it away from him. He was definitely over 40”. Picked up this 25” fish on a swim jig. I got lucky. I was pitching to holes in the grass and letting it hit bottom on slack line before jigging it back through. He ate it on the bottom so I hooked him on the first jig. He should have just inhaled it but was hooked in the roof of the mouth/nose. 14 Quote

These are in fact bluegill/green sunfish hybrids. We have them around here in every pond and lake. They are as aggressive as green sunfish but fight as hard as bluegill. I'm almost positive it's a natural cross but I could be mistaken. They're definitely cool-looking and fun to catch. 3 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Got out for a couple hours this morning for some pike after the rains slowed down. This particular lake isn’t known for any giants, but there’s plenty up to about mid 30” long. I didn’t have a bunch of time so I went there knowing I’d at least get into some fish. First hour or so I had a bunch of follows, and they wouldn’t commit, but I finally figured out what they wanted, then I managed about 8 over the next couple hours. Best was right about 36” long. I was solo today so no real great pics. 11 Quote
jr231 Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Went to a pond I was told was filled with stunted bass and bluegill. And they were right! 12 or so bass about 12" long and rather skinny Think I found the culprit ! Bout to go back with a bucket of minnows and see if I can catch more of these crappie. Caught on a zoom super fluke 11 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 24, 2022 Global Moderator Posted May 24, 2022 Took my boys to a creek for a few hours Sunday afternoon. Last time we went for 30 minutes to get bait before chasing flatheads and they were disappointed we had to leave, so this time we were just focused on the creek. Ultralights with tiny jigs with piece of an orange grub worked everything over for them. One of the most important parts of a fishing trip, the snacks! My youngest just destroying a snoball ? 15 1 Quote
