There are a few places to fly fish not too far away. We’ll try them this fall. I’ve been a fly fishing instructor for about 15 years. I hate it haha 1 1 Quote

Since we have the gear now, we’re going to try a few more times closer than home. It’s one of those things, where you want to do it more because you can’t do it right. Quote

When trout are eating bugs, that’s the one time I enjoy it somewhat. I just suffer from burnout when it comes to the fly scene. Some of my guide buddies won’t use regular gear, i tried that for a while and it’s not for me. I love spinning and baitcasting 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 14, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 14, 2021 Prefishing for my kayak clubs championship this past Friday. Had a rough stretch for a while catching everything except bass. Sunfish, bluegill, crappie, a truckload of white bass, drum, channel cats, sauger, even managed to snag a pair of smallmouth buffalo on back to back cast with a grub off the same rocky point. Didn't land the first one, but the second was hooked in the soft area right by the mouth. 12 Quote

I actually had another explode on it a few cast before I caught that one. I've caught them on buzzbaits, crawlers, spooks, even frogs in thick grass. 8 1 Quote

Way north bass guy Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 I had a small job to do today on an island, and was done a bit early so I figured I might as well make a few casts on the way back to the ramp. Hit a few spots with a drop shot and got some smallmouth, then I was playing around with a crankbait and got this nice little tiger musky. This particular lake has quite a few tigers in it, all natural fish too ( lots of pike and musky in there to make hybrids). I’ve caught around 20 or so over the years, up to 42” long in there, but it’s been a few years since I’ve got one, mostly cause I haven’t targeted muskie in a while. 11 Quote

I’ve only ever caught one naturally produced one. I have caught a fair number of them in recent years on lakes where they are stocked and they are an awesome fish. I caught 4 in August, and they were all big: 37, 38, 39, and 40 inchers. Anything 40+ is trophy category, as they don’t grow nearly as big as a pure strain muskie. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 17, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 17, 2021 One of many bycatches I had during my kayak tournament this past weekend was this blacknose crappie. I think this is the 3rd or 4th one I've ever caught. 9 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 20, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 20, 2021 Took my boys to a creek off the river Saturday for a few hours. Water was really low, barely could get through the first rocks by the ramp (barely got the boat in the water really). Couldn't even get close to our normal spot but we parked the boat on the bank and walked up. Still plenty of water in the hole we like to fish and big schools of shad. Inline spinners were quickly getting assaulted by by healthy white bass and wiper. Right before we left. I got the smallest but one of the rarest fish I've caught in Kansas, a naturally spawned sauger from the river. 11 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted September 20, 2021 Super User Posted September 20, 2021 I have come to the conclusion that catching Pickerel in a sit in kayak is no fun when they flop off inside of the cockpit. 7 4 Quote
thediscochef Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 This is the last fish I caught...three days and four trips ago. I wish I'd had my buddy with me cause we could have had it certified as a water body record for Blue Catfish. Since then...I've been skunked the last two days...had 17 fish spit my hook. 17!!! One of which was a Gar I managed to get half onto the bank before it snapped me off. I feel like I'm never going to catch anything again, makes me want to pull the remaining bits of hair I have left 12 1 Quote

I would have wrapped him in my rain slicker and stuffed him in the back seat of the car , with my wife screaming at me the whole time about stinking up her ride. Man, I love mustard fried catfish. (That story really happened by the way) Honestly a lesser appointment would have been moved but this was important and involved money. It was also like 90 degrees here that day and it would have been an absolute disaster in the back of my Civic. ? I catch 5-10 pounders out at that spot pretty regularly during five day spans that have a full or new moon in the middle, so we eat good size cats pretty regularly I am also generally catch and release 99% of the time, I'm mostly here for the rush of catching and handling oh on a positive note though, I did finally catch some largemouths yesterday. I had to lose one fish for every pound of that catfish before I did though. Hopefully my karmic debt is paid ? 1 Quote
