This summer, it seems I've caught more catfish acting like largemouth than ever.

I was tossing an unweighted 3" Pit Boss along the edges of some big riprap with a BFS outfit and caught this one yesterday.  They sure are great fighters... I thought this one was twice its size until I got a look at it.

My two biggest fish of the the day were both cats; this one, and one caught next to a big root ball.

This is a fact on rising water levels.

Especially channel cats graze the new wet bank for insects, etc. the same way redfish graze the rising tide for crustaceans

Wow. A real man lippin’ a catfish…

I mainly use my lipper because I have big hands and it gives me much more room to work with when de-hooking.

This one was a hair under 30

42lbs is plenty big. Those are some of the hardest fighters, they're still athletes at that size. I 100% use grippers too. Nothing to do with hand size, blues have extremely strong jaws and they like to use them. A big one can remove a lot of skin in a hurry.

I caught some nice Yellow Perch and Redbreast Sunfish big enough to take a Ned EWG hook and a 4” Wacky rigged Senko.

Great day yesterday. Couldn’t even guess how many fish we caught but cod, pollock, cunner and mackerel were all willing to bite a bucktail.

Not huge but a lot of fun.

I thought that was a catfish at first glance…

We had a wave come in and rocked us when I took the pic…little lumpy out there today.

Dillon got big fish of the day. I had gotten a nice one earlier in the day. Later in the day I added a little Megastrike to his bucktail which caught the attention of a beauty cod.

So glad to have this time with him. It’s going to change real soon as he gets older. I just hope that he has the relationship my father I have later in life.

Ok, you can put on Harry Chapins “Cat’s in the Cradle” song. LOL!

A friend and I each caught a 37 inch tiger muskie this morning in the rain, 10 minutes apart.

I caught my PB Chain Pickerel today. It hammered a Texas rigged Z-Man TicklerZ on a 1/0 Worm hook. 12# Berkley Big Game Mono held up landing it.

I waited a while, but your photos here and from 01AUG wouldn't load.  Are they huge?  (I mean the photo file sizes, not the fish! ;) )

Anyway, congratulations!

I've been have a lot of fun throwing the Z-Man TicklerZ on a ShroomZ head, T-rigged, or on an Owner Ultrahead Finesse ball head this summer.  Great bait!

Hope you can see them now. Some days my pics don’t load for some reason. I see the Aug 1st pics and the ones from yesterday now.

This is my PB bowfin of 2021! He fought hard on the kayak and pulled me around! I’m so glad I brought my net!

Caught this while bass fishing in one of my work route ponds… It has the mouth of a warmouth but otherwise looks like a copperhead bluegill. The tail isnt small like a warmouth.

Appears to have the 3 anal spines like a warmouth and mouth is too big to be a coppernose. It has the faint "war paint", on the gill plates like a warmouth also. Maybe just an odd shaped one? The sunfishes are one of the few that can naturally hybridize, so there's always that potential.
