I agree. They are pretty fun to catch, but it can get interesting trying to get a hook out of those slippery jokers.

Best trick I know for handling fish like that is to not lip them at all when I boat them. Just hold them with my palm across their back, fingers and thumb wrapping around either side just behind the gill cover. Takes all the fight out of them so I can get them unhooked without me or them getting hurt.

I've actually gone out with only ultra-light gear with intentions of catching panfish.  The fight is ON!

That's what's up. You're liable to get all you can handle and more if the big girls are also feeding up like they will during mayfly and cicada hatches.

Maybe I ought to go fishing this afternoon.

Catfish that hit a 3" T-rigged Pit Boss...

I also got my PB bowfin on a Megabug but didn't get a photo.  :(  I'd guess it was 10+ lbs.

My buddy’s  wife and young daughter were out of town so he said he wanted to do some cat fishing.  That’s him with the big one in the top photo, a 30 inch blue. We kept some of the smaller ones fried them up after fishing. all the fish were caught on jug lines with hotdogs5495481-A-B867-4-D57-8-B46-7-D2-DF994-B6

Couple small Walters from the kayak this morning. One on a beaver flipping a tree, the other on a shallow flat on a Ned rig.

I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday so I figured I'd set aside the flipping stick and go have some fun with panfish on ultralight. Got my $25 Daiwa combo set up with a small slip bobber, a split shot, size 8 bait hook, and some mini nightcrawlers to top it off. Found a huge bedding area and was able to fish that single spot for about 5 hours with almost every fish being 8+ inches. Ended up catching my PB Shellcracker at 9 3/4 inches, forgot to take a picture, and my PB bluegill at 9 inches, the one facing "up". I guess fishing really is medicine because when I got home my cold was gone!

Friends came to visit over the weekend and rented a house on a local lake. Fishing was great. We caught lots of Bluegill from shore.

I was using the Eurotackle EPF Swim. A 1” swimbait on a 1/32 oz Eagle Claw jighead. A fantastic rig that produced fish all day long.spacer.png

Most of the gills were 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound.

And this one that needed to visit Dr Pimple Popper

The bass were not cooperating today.  I got bored and started going through the tackle boxes...  Hey!  There's a brand new Megabass Vision 110 Magnum in "Elegy Bone" color that hasn't been in the water yet!

After about three jerks:

They are one of the best eating fish around here. Cooked up some fried fish sandwiches for dinner. The shirt says Dinkasaur. I call big small fish Dinkasaurs.

If green sunfish grew to 50lbs, you couldn't swim in the lakes they resided in.

There's something about rock bass and Rapalas...  I caught my first double when two rock bass bit a Rapala count-down minnow fore and aft.

BTW... I do have a Rapala Super Shad Rap in  perch color, but it's only about 5.5" long.  I don't know if I could cast a four-footer!  ?
