Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 9, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 9, 2019 Stopped by a little neighborhood pond on the way home that offers public fishing. I caught several small bass on a jerkbait but in one area there was a bunch of spawning crappie that would nose up to the bait but not eat it. I only had one little box with hooks basically but there was one dirty old 3" chartreuse power minnow and a 1/32oz orange jighead with a rusty hook. I cut down the power minnow and put it on the jighead and put it on the medium spinning rod with 8lb fluoro I'd been fishing my jerkbait on and went on to catch probably 15 crappie in short order before I broke the hook on the jighead unhooking one of them. They were aggressive and very pretty fish. Fun sight fishing them in clear water like that. I did get one to eat the jerkbait before I switch to the jig. 8 Quote

Brandon O'tinger Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Caught these guys yesterday. About 15 in all about the size of these. Had a blast. Prior to this year, it had been 5 years since my last crappie. Â Â Â Â 10 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 18, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 18, 2019 Had to stop and see if there were any crappie still biting where I found them a couple weeks ago. Still there, still biting. 6 Quote

mrpao Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 As much as I enjoy bass. There's nothing like a big old crappie on the end of your line. I really enjoy catching those big slabs this time of year. Especially on a small crankbait. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 21, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 21, 2019 Sometimes I like to show everyone that I know how to catch fish other than bass pretty well too Put 37 of these guys in the boat Friday, along with some white bass, largemouth, and a crappie. Almost all of them were caught casting in less than 5' of water in the middle of a bright, sunny, post cold front day. They were not shy at all either, had to use pliers to get my bait back from a lot of them. 5 Quote
Russ E Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 I was having a decent day catching 2 to 3 pound bass,  when this dinosaur hammered my jerkbait. most exciting part of the day was trying to get my $15.00 jerkbait out of its mouth. It weighed 7lb 8oz.  7 Quote

They're way more predatory than most people think. I got a bigger dink on an X-Rap once. It was at a pond that wasn't very well managed, I think they were hungry enough to go after anything. 2 Quote
RealtreeByGod Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 Here's a good one. They're actually pretty effective dink filters. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 29, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2019 My dad and I finally got a day on the water and he's been craving fish, so I did like a good son and put him on some dinner (and a whole bunch of other fish that were released). 9 Quote

Subaqua Adinterim Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 One of 2 chain pickerel caught yesterday along with 8 LMB. Note the telltale black bar of a pickerel beneath the eye. 8 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Finally, got the boat out for the first time this year, the main lake was only 37 deg with skims of ice in a few spots, but we found a small river coming into a shallow bay that was 48 deg and loaded with small pike and smallmouth. No big girls, but it was still a last to have the rods bent a bit and enjoy some sunny weather. Only gonna get better from here on. 8 Quote
gnappi Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 We're real big on snakehead fishing here in SoFlo, so much so that LMB are becoming a secondary target.  The last outing got us ten fish, three upwards of 9 pounds, two at 10+ pounds lost and one lost after it leaped out of the cooler after being on ice for nearly a half hour.  We're heading out again tomorrow the 7th.   10 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 6, 2019 Super User Posted May 6, 2019 Pond fishing has been great for multi-species fishing.  Big Pumpkinseeds   Stocked Brook Trout. Amazing how they look like baby Lake Trout.  8 Quote
