That Yo-Zuri Snap Bean catches everything (almost caught a bullhead with it this morning even). The little Longear were spawning and super aggressive. They don't get much prettier than this. Beautiful fish! I have a Snap Bean. No luck with it yet. I will have to give it another try. Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted July 20, 2018 Super User Posted July 20, 2018 Nice channel cat that got in the way yesterday. Thought at first it was a walleye when I initially saw the light colored flash in the water - lol. Absolutely ate a jigging spoon. Could barely reach the hooks with the long nose pliers. 7 Quote
hawgenvy Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Can't handle the summer humidity, heat and lack of breeze lately. Even my sunset bassing visits to local ponds have now become sweaty and buggy affairs rewarded with merely a dink or two. My daughter and son-in-law convinced me to join them on a local drift boat for an evening trip offshore. You pay $45 pp and includes tackle, sardines for bait, and a mate to help. It ended up being a blast. When the kingfish bite was on it was mayhem. I caught the first fish, a monster kingfish, and ended up winning the pool. This king yielded enough superb sashimi for 30 people. 10 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 1, 2018 Super User Posted August 1, 2018 Been awhile since I caught one of these guys. Didn't miss the smelly slimy mess at all. It was fun to catch though. The water was as calm as glass and I was able to see him shoot up from the depths to slam my Strike King Red Eye Shad crankbait. He was as long as my arm and weighed in at almost a pound and a half. 7 Quote
UPSmallie Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 The pike fishing here has been fairly easy for the most part. It's just hiking to the fishing spots that can be the challenging part. Explored a small lake from the shoreline and found some success casting across some of the back bays. Nailed a 25 inch right away on the X-Rap in olive green. Worked my way to the next bay and got crushed by this fat 29 incher. Few days later I went back to my frog spot at around 7 PM and realized how special of a spot it really is. I think I've figured it out. So basically the river flows through the area but it reaches a spot where it widens quite a bit. Off to the side on one of the wide areas is a flat full of lilly pads that is on a ledge right next to a deep portion of the river. I've fished it in broad daylight and just never have had success on it. But fish it from 7-9 PM and hold on! When the evening comes and the day cools off, the pike must come from the deeper water and sit in the lilly pads. Anywho I got to the spot and in an additional two days straight of fishing it on top of when I went the first time, I got something crazy like 25 pike blowups on the frog! Insane! My landing percentage was crappy as I only got three to shore but was heck of a lot of fun. The first night I got these two big girls and the second night was just a 22 inch dink. The first one went 30.5 inches and the 2nd one went 29 inches. I kid you not I was packing up and starting to leave the area when I decided to pitch out one more final cast and that's when the 29 inch smoked the pad crasher. Love the fishing here, just wish there'd be more trout/salmon. Oh also a crap ton of reindeer running around. 11 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 3, 2018 Super User Posted August 3, 2018 Super aggressive Redbreast Sunfish took a swipe at my Whopper Plopper 90 If I am incorrect in my identification that this is a Redbreast Sunfish please let me know. They are one of the more colorful fish I catch out of the Hudson. 5 Quote

Taking a gap year in Finland at the moment working at a National Park Research Station. Up near the Arctic Circle and 4 miles from the Russian Border! See probably on average 10-15 reindeer a day, but have seen as many as 30. The only downside is that they leave behind turd minefields haha. Just have to watch where you step. This sign is posted at my work. 5 Quote

I knew we had moose up in the UP but reindeer would've been a new one. They are some tasty critters if you get a chance to try some. 1 Quote

They're impossible to take a good picture of by yourself it seems like unless you set a camera up with a timer, which is tough in a kayak Had a guide trip Friday, mostly for bass and wipers, but the youngest of the 3 generations of men had never caught many catfish and none much larger than a pound and was really interested in catching one when I mentioned how easily we could catch them. When dad and grandpa were ready to go I asked for 5 minutes to get the boy his catfish, I don't think we used half that time. Bass fishing for catfish with a chunk of gizzard shad, weightless with a 1/0 kahle hook, it never touched bottom and it took off and hit the end of the line so hard I'm pretty sure it hooked itself. He wasn't ready to go after that. 5 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted August 6, 2018 Super User Posted August 6, 2018 I planned to torture myself with Dropshot rig on a pockets of weed today. Got there a little late 6:45AM and saw a whole bunch of water boiling. I took a closer look and carp everywhere roaming around shallow and deep. I walked to my usual spot, 2nd cast felt a bite, set hook and line started screaming out of my reel. I said to myself "oh **** carp hit me again" and this area is weed everywhere. I let him pull the line but try to get him to stay on surface as mush as possible, finally got him in with another carp swimming around him very close to my feet. I moved after that since I don't plan to fight with crap in those weedy area and I know for sure carp will hit my lure again. This was on Zman zinkerz anyway. At 2nd spot I got nothing and still saw some carp boiling up, I think those greenie water bugs laying egg or something? 5 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 9, 2018 Super User Posted August 9, 2018 Got a free offshore fishing trip from my job. It was the second least productive day Ive had offshore fishing but it was still fun. One of my co-workers ( the one next to me ) was seasick all day and never put a line in the water so my day was great compared to his. 9 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted August 12, 2018 Super User Posted August 12, 2018 Nice mixed bag today from a local reservoir. Besides a dozen green fish, I found a big school of white bass willing to eat along with a bonus walleye. Sat on that group for about an hour and caught a bunch before resuming my chase for bass. 10 Quote

Way north bass guy Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Tried for some salmon on Georgian Bay this morning, didn’t stay out too long due to the ridiculous heat and not a bit of wind, but my son did manage one nice fat laker about 10lbs or so. 11 Quote
