wet_dream Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Took the kayak out Saturday morning hoping for a topwater bite. Chance of rain kept boats off the water, had the feeling of a crisp fall day. Labor Day weekend, and we had the water to ourselves. Can't wait for the fall striper run. Another beautiful sunrise, doesn't get old 26.5 in striper Whopper plopper enticed these little bluefish to bite, but this fiesty things will hit anything lol 6 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 7, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2017 The late summer berry hatch is on! Never got an official grass carp on a fly rod before (caught one, but it was hooked outside the mouth), managed to entice one to eat an egg imitation and get an official first on the fly. Just a little guy, but still took about 5 minutes to land. Found a huge school of black crappie in a tiny brushpile off the front of a deep dock too. Hammered them for 20 minutes before I got tired of catching them. 6 Quote
Neil McCauley Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Surprise August Laker Measured 30". I felt awful having to remove her from the Lake, but she had 2 treble hooks deep in the gill plates, and had already fought a 15 min battle up from 80 feet to warm surface water. I was trolling in 80 fow after seeing some marks in the 50-60s and got curious. So I let out a Rapala DT20 with 200 yrds of 8lb fluoro line out. I thought they were pike or deep SMB, never thought I'd run into one of these in August. 6 Quote

If it's a NY caught fish, I think he's fine. Haven't check the wall at the post office either. But either way, I didn't wanna go there. A-Jay 3 Quote
UPSmallie Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Well you can't win them all. For whatever reason the powerhouse turbines were all shut off today so fishing was very slow. Managed a hookup with what I would estimate a 20-21 inch pink salmon male. Had to have been pushing master angler (21 inches). Threw the hooks as my friend was trying to get the net. Did get a nice 30 second video of it though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5Xh9Db5tSg Quote

Super User everythingthatswims Posted September 10, 2017 Author Super User Posted September 10, 2017 With about an hour of daylight left, I got the extreme urge to fish, so I loaded up my kayak and hurried to the river. Only caught one fish, but it happened to be musky number 27 for me! She followed a war eagle spinnerbait to my kayak and I missed her on the figure 8, but dunked the rod back under and she ate it as soon as I started figure 8ing again! Super cool in clean water, I have always wanted to land one on the figure 8 in a kayak! 11 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted September 11, 2017 Super User Posted September 11, 2017 Gorgeous fall day - a little to nice, actually - lol. ENE post front breezes and bluebird skies, but we still managed a decent crappie catch given the conditions - just no slabs. 7 Quote
Attila Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Caught a whole bunch of these guys tonight on a yellow perch patterned Rapala Shadow Rap...fun times! Can't wait for the colder weather to bring the bigguns in shallow again. And a bonus twofer, a pair of rock bass hitting the Ripstop! 5 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 13, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 13, 2017 My buddy wanted some fish to eat, so we did a little crappie hunting. I'd found them last week, and they hadn't moved an inch. 15-18 feet of water with a 1/16oz ball head and panfish assassin. 10 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted September 18, 2017 Super User Posted September 18, 2017 I love Fall fishing for Sunfish. Technically not Fall yet but the big Pumpkinseed and Bluegill think it is. 5 Quote

Yes Lakers are in season year-round here, totally legal catch. I just like to return big ones like this to the water to breed.. but it is not always possible. 1 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted September 19, 2017 Super User Posted September 19, 2017 Warm spell moving through this last week and again next. Highs near 90 will temporarily halt our fall fishing progress. No rush, as the crappie have begun grouping up a bit as they move in from their main lake summer homes. A couple pics from this weekend. 11 Quote

Nice crappie, its been a while since I've chased them. What model depth finder is that? Those are some really good screen shots. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 20, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 20, 2017 Wind was killing me yesterday. Lots of bites but too much line out on a long cast in deep water to get the hooks in them. Only got this little guy to stick. 10 Quote
