I've caught crappies on some crazy stuff, but never a worm. Poppers, jerkbaits, fish head spins with a 4" swimbait, DT10's. Never on a big worm.

I've been catching crappies on a 5" wacky rigged stick worm in the neighbors pond lately. Last week they were hitting everything I threw, so much so I got frustrated with catching them and left. Caught crappie on a 1.5, 127 slender pointer, 3/4oz football jig with a Rage lobster, shakyhead, ned rig, spinnerbait, didn't matter they ate it all. 

 

I had a guide trip today and got on one of the craziest, funnest bites I've ever found. There was what I thought was wipers blowing up on shad inside the off limits area on a power plant lake, just as far as I could cast a jigging spoon. They were big fish alright, but I was pretty shocked when we started boating blue and channel cats that were busting shad on the surface on jigging spoons. No monsters, I had one 14 pound blue, all the rest were under 10 pounds, but they were some of the hardest, jarring strikes I've ever had and of course the fights were great on bass gear.

And of course we had several big drum throughout the day too.

Bluebasser86 I've never seen cats schooling on the surface . That would be pretty cool .

I've seen channels do it on lakes where they feed them a lot, and I've heard of blues doing it at LOZ, but never personally seen blues do it. No doubting that's what they were, and apparently they were feeding quite effectively too.

The morning started with a crazy white bass and wiper bite. It was pretty much like it is in this video for the first 2 hours.

I got out for a couple hours earlier... Caught a few bass... And noticed some catfish prowling the shallows... So I decided I was going to catch a couple gills and use em for bait.. well  I ended up catching some brutes on some crappie nibbles. They were thick too.

@RoLo that's 3-4" up my forearm... If you have hands that big.. you're in the wrong profession ! 

 

 

P.s I know you're retired.

I tend to refer to Bluegill that large as being "as big as your face".  It makes folks think how really big that is.

I'm glad I found this pics forum.

 

I caught this Chain Pickerel on Friday, the day before New York Pickerel season opened, but it would have been undersized anyway, not meeting the 15 inch minimum, so it lived to see another day.

I'd call that a green sunfish or green sunfish hybrid, but not a bluegill.

Not trying to be a jerk, I was just pointing it out.  The orange on the edge of the fins and the spots below the eyes is why I was saying that.

27" #7.5 Channel Cat from two nights ago. Fresh chicken livers w/ a couple spays of Gulp!Alive! Shad scent because I'm just crazy like that. Like catfishing when I want a break from beating the banks for bass.

Got bit by several large reds, but none of them committed... broke off a huge black drum trying to land him (too big for the net, also Berkley Vanish...). Caught a lot of dink trouts.
