For those that have asked about this technique I refer to often for catfishing. I made a rough video showing how I do it. I wasn't prepared to do it but the fish feeder went off and looked like the water was boiling from all the fish so I thought I'd take advantage of it. I accidentally said baitcaster when I'm obviously using and always do use spinning gear for this technique. Otherwise, it turned out okay with a very nice channel that never should have made it to the boat.

We've had a slot limit on walleye here the last few years as the population has taken a serious hit due to over fishing and an increase in panfish numbers including crappie.  While this isn't the largest walleye around, to me it's an important find as it shows the slot limit is working and that some natural spawning success is happening.

That's a monster wiper!  I'm glad to hear that at least a few survived the winter, I really hope they stock some more this year or we're going to be out of wipers.  Did you get it on crappie gear?

You can have all the wipers they put in our small lakes. All the big bass disappeared after the state did that and most of the smaller fish are skinny and sickly looking. They lakes that can support them, they're a blast, but they sure can wreck a little lake too.

Agreed. They did that in a few lakes I use to fish. The population of bass wasn't good in the lakes to begin with but got worse after they stocked the wipers. They found out a decade later that the bass couldn't compete with wipers for food and that adversely hurt the bass population. Not to mention depleting the bait fish numbers.

They added a bunch just a few years ago, so they should start showing up next year as they outgrow the white bass...and yes, this one came on a 2" crappie tube on 3# line

Seems to be a mixed bag depending upon lake and species composition. I've heard others mention them hurting big bass populations, but that's been anecdotal. In some of our lakes they almost never live past 4 years old in any numbers, and in others I've seen them go 7-9 years. If they're going to stock them, I figure you might as well just make the best of it

I'll bet that was both challenging and fun.  I hadn't heard that they stocked any more wipers since 2007, but i'm glad that they did.  Excited to hopefully catch a few in the next few years, I have yet to land one.  I did hook one last fall while white bass fishing but the hook on my in-line spinner bent out right next to the boat.  Fought like crazy while I had it though, just like a fifteen pound white bass.

This little musky found its way to my 1/4oz Excalibur lipless crank today and miraculously didn't bite through the 10lb mono it was on. The Calcutta Conquest 50 sure is being put to the test!

Caught the Muskie burning a spinnerbait over a weed bed. Only had bass net in boat so I had to hand land it. My son caught the bowfin on a wacky worm.

I just meant their qualities.. such as their eyes and shape. They get real big too ! I imagine a huge one might offer a better experience in terms of a fight. 

In the weakest fighting fish thread walleye was mentioned alot..

Wow nice muskie! What state was that caught in? Looks like our NY Great Lakes fish. Great picture too btw. 

 I've always found walleye one of the best tasting but worst fighting fish. I never cared for the way they fought or the way we fished for them (always either jigging or trolling both of which I found boring) but as a food fish they can't be beat. I'm right on Lake Erie which has some incredible walleye fishing but even so I don't bother going after them. Just not my thing I guess. They are cool looking fish though.

Muskie was caught in Northern Minnesota.  The lake I fish does not have many, but I have been lucky enough to catch a couple over the last few years while bass fishing.  Caught this one when I was out alone.  Muskie Selfie.  My son lost a big one this year on a wacky worm.  Jumped clear out of the water 15 feet from boat and snapped line.  I had a very sad boy that day.

The fall pattern has finally inched its way into toasty So Flo, as evidenced by several satisfying catches during this evening's sunset excursion along the bank of a local pond, courtesy of pond water that is no longer at boiling temperature and thanks to the awesome jerkbaits from Megabass.

Muskie selfies rule! Catching a muskie on bass gear is always a blast. I see a lot of fish here,  get a lot of follows, and hook several muskies every year. Even with all that I still rarely get more than one a year to the boat so it's a thrill when it finally all works out. That's why I can really appreciate your picture because I know how hard it is to get a fish like that for most of us.
