Super User slonezp Posted February 6, 2016 Super User Posted February 6, 2016 Just started looking online at them. Looking for something that is lockable and has enough room to mount a battery box and store a small jack and lug wrench etc. I think I'm going to add an electric winch and possibly an electric tongue jack. I've had 3 shoulder surgery's since 2010 and want to prevent any more shoulder mishaps. I haven't been able to find a lockable battery tray/box that I can just mount to the trailer. Anyone have any recommendations? Trailer is a Lund Shorelander with swing away tongue. This is the one I have been looking at. Boat is in storage so I haven't taken any measurements yet. I don't even know if it will fit. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/buyers-trailer-tongue-polymer-toolbox?cm_mmc=Affiliates-_-AffiliateTraction-_-legacy-_-offer&affiliate_id=43737&click_id=1531661729 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted February 7, 2016 Super User Posted February 7, 2016 The problem I see, While sitting at the ramp and your out, If someone thinks there might be something worth stealing in it, and you make it where they can't get into it easily, that will just encourage them to steal the whole trailer so they could take it someplace to get it open. That is why coupler locks are a thing. 1 Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted February 8, 2016 Super User Posted February 8, 2016 I bought an electric jack that was supposed to be powered by an auxiliary battery. I rewired it and put a 7 pin connector on it. I just plug it into the truck when I want to jack the trailer. There surely is a way to also power a winch via the truck. Quote

The winch draws a max of 60 amps. The trucks wiring harness wont handle that. I would need to run a separate harness Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 8, 2016 Super User Posted February 8, 2016 Perhaps something not made of a "Molded" material . . http://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Aluminum-Trailer-Underbody-Underbed/dp/B00W4QVSWW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454939244&sr=8-1&keywords=Trailer+Tongue+Tool+Box A-Jay Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 8, 2016 Super User Posted February 8, 2016 I think I'd go with the option of running another harness to the back of your truck. Most of those boxes are made to fit where the trailer "V"'s out which would be behind the bow roller. There's a guy in our bass club that has a small one there and it's beaten to crap because depending on the ramp angle and how far the boat is backed in the bow will sometimes end up hitting that instead of the bow roller when coming on or off the trailer. You could modify it to sit in front, but in order to support a battery you might have to do some reinforcing. Running a few wires from your truck battery seems like less effort, plus you don't have to buy another battery or worry about charging it all the time. Quote
