Super User scaleface Posted February 6, 2016 Super User Posted February 6, 2016 I picked up these three a day ago at a trading post . I like finding these places better than going to a store . Theres a lipped floating Rattle Trap . Never used one . Looks like a gimmick , it might just get hung with some other oddball lures I collect. A Manns Deep Razorback Pig . I have caught a lot of bass on these lures . Then there is a Wordens Timber Tiger . I have never used one .but look forward to trying to bang them off of standing timber . All three look new and cost me a total of six dollars . 3 Quote
KDW96 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Nice find. Especially this time of year. Sometimes i will find a lure or too also, but not often Quote

tander Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Loved them old Mann's lures. Use to have a bunch of them but they some how got away from me. 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted February 6, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2016 You're both mistaken .There is a difference . The lip in my picture is not the deeply cupped wide lip like on hooties lures . Hooties are not the stretch but the 10 plus , or 15 plus baits . Quote

Everything matches. Layed the lure on top of the one on the page. There is nothing that doesn't match. Even the color pattern. Not arguing that it's a 10+ or a 15+, but that it is a "Razorback". Super User deaknh03 Posted February 6, 2016 Super User Posted February 6, 2016 I'm a fan of the timber tiger, I found a handful at a flea market years ago. 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 6, 2016 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2016 Heres the different lip sizes . The old one is a lot smaller and doesnt dive as deeply . The body shapes are identical . 2 Quote
tander Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I have got a Mann's 1984 catalog, they all are the Razorback family, I think the shallow divers were Pigs. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 6, 2016 Super User Posted February 6, 2016 That Timber Tiger is a great bait. As long as vegetation doesn't interfere, throw it everywhere you'd throw a spinnerbait. I throw mine ( mostly DC8's) on the most abrasion resistant 17 or 20 lb mono that I got. Currently that is Berkley Iron Silk. I know that the Iron Silk is a rude green color but I don't that makes any difference when you're smacking it into stuff. If you're throwing into open water, I think that there are better baits - but woody cover - nothing comes close to going in and coming out every time. It is the little wings on the side. 2 Quote
primetime Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I have been using the timber Tiger for a long time and it comes through wood and trees nicely, and it has a nice action when you hit something and dead stick it....It floats up nicely and the sides of the crank help with it running true at higher speeds, and also with deflections...I picked up a bunch at a yard sale and a few of them had dressed trebles on the rear with a double hook, and I am not sure which one's they are since they are so beat up but I have a few that run about 5-6' on 15lb test Big Game and the color is mostly gone except for some white and green on a few, and I do the best with the one's with the dressed rear hook, and also when I add a chart line to each side with a spike it marker since the shape is vey similar to a bluegill. The Timber Tiger is almost a hybrid of the Speed Shad by Luhr Jensen, those wings give it a unique action, I am not afraid to lose them and I chuck em in nasty spots and they come out really good. You can still buy them on TW and anyone who uses them usually appreciates how well they work...They can be tuned easily if you like a bait that hunts more to one side etc...Good Buy... I have always felt that on smaller lakes and ponds it is better to throw lures fish are not seeing as often, and the Timber Tiger along with the Big O rarely get used anymore compared to Strike king and all the square bill look a likes surely pressure fish....The colors of the Timber Tiger are unique as well...You can also put big hooks on the bait and it still has a nice action... 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 6, 2016 Super User Posted February 6, 2016 I use to use the Timber Tiger DC-3 an 4 a lot but I have more success with the Big-O and Bomber Square A so I got away from them. TW still sells the Timber Tigers, there is still a decent following of those baits. The Trap looks like something someone decided to try on their own, and if you want a lipped trap all you need to do is get a Bomber Flat A, because that is basically what they are. The Mann's Razorback, you know I still fish a lot of Mann's crankbaits and I still have yet to find one that dives 2' and deflects as wildly as the Mann's Baby X. The Razorback has a great shape but the new ones (still same shape) are the Go2 and Depth plus. 1 Quote

Hootie maybe, I have been known to be wrong, the pattern just looks ever so slightly off. 1 Quote

Super User whitwolf Posted February 6, 2016 Super User Posted February 6, 2016 I don't fish the Baby Ashley square bill anymore for sentimental reasons(bait on the bottom right in the picture)but that was a fish catching machine! I did have a great laugh a few years ago when KVD won the classic on a square bill and some thought It was a revolutionary bait. I was fishing baby ashleys and Rebel wee r square bills in the late 70's. 1 Quote
Polar Bear Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 A friend of mine found this at the lake the other day. On the bottom it says Mann's on one side and Razor Back (2 words) on the other. The bill is an extension of the body, not a clear plastic attachment. Any idea what year this might have been made? Quote
