moloch16 Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Got up a little early and fished a pond I drive by on the way to work. Caught a couple small ones on top water. Decided to try a Senko. Rigged a 6" Senko wacky style and tossed out towards the middle. I'm watching it sink but something doesn't seem right so I take in the slack to see what's up. I feel a quick tug and then nothing! Reel in my bait and half of it is gone! I'm sure that fish was 12 pounds I just started fishing Senkos, does this happen often? Quote
FatBoy Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I've had this happen plenty of times. Senkos are really soft and it doesn't take much to tear them in half. I've ripped them in half just getting them caught up in some thick weeds. After catching a fish or two on one, even a bluegill that gets hold of the end can rip them. I doubt that fish was 12 lbs A fish that big would have inhaled the whole senko in a heart beat instead of nipping at the end. Quote
moloch16 Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 LOL that's what I figured. I was rather suprised though. Being a fisherman I naturally have to assume it was a 12 pounder that 'got away' ;D Quote
FisshhBill Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Over the years, I've had a couple of 12 lb Snapping Turtles do the same thing! :-? Quote
Guest avid Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Next time put the hook in the half that the fish are biting : Quote
jaskoh Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Next time put the hook in the half that the fish are biting : Thats hilarious ;D Quote

bassman00012 Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I get a lot of rips from the bluegills. I even see them following the lure underwater. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 17, 2007 Super User Posted May 17, 2007 My first guess would be "warmouth", but a 12-lb warmouth should be able to slurp a 6" senko I Give Up Quote
KenDammit28 Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 it happens a lot in ponds because turtles will grab just about anything that goes by their head when they are looking for food. Just be glad if it was a turtle that it didn't get the hook cuz they are a pain in the butt to try and get in first and secondly to try and get off the hook(NEVER GO NEAR A SNAPPING TURTLES MOUTH!) I pulled in a...I would guess a 10-20lb snapping turtle once and it felt like reeling in a concrete block. Quote
linesider7 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 May have been a shark... :-? I'm getting tired. Good night! Quote
deadeye32. Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Rock bass, warmouth, and bluegills all do this to senko's where I fish. The rock bass especially do this at the river while smallmouth fishing. Quote
Frank19 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Could have been a pikerel. Those teeth will cut a Senko in half in a second. Quote
