chubaka Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 So I can spend around 200 on a reel and 200 on a rod so 400 total. I was wondering any suggestion on what reel and rod to get? Fishing mostly plastics and t-rigs Quote
hawgenvy Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 If it were me: Dobyns Savvy 734 casting rod ($179.99) and a Lew's Tournament Pro G Speed Spool casting reel ($199.99). That will leave you $20.02 to spend on some decent line. If it were me and I could come up with another $60, I'd buy instead a Dobyns Champion 734 casting rod. Love 'em. 2 Quote
Puggz Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 My recommendation would be a Fenwick Aetos 7'2" MH/XF with a Tatula type R spooled with 30lb PP Slick. Quote

Tournament Pro G on sale for $149.95 with free shipping from American Legacy Fishing right now. Just added an 8.3:1 myself. 2 Quote

If that $60 is hard to come by, check out the Lew's Lite or the Tournament MB. Sensitivity is of the utmost important when fishing plastics. On a joking note, grab a black max and buy a Champion Extreme DX744! The rod is a beast! Quote
Kuenro02 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Check out the new line of dobyns, the fury line up. Heard they're just as good if not better than the savy line. A couple others to look at would be the Irod Gen2, St. Croix and Daiwa tatula. For a reel, you have tons of options in that price range. Since your fishing plastics I'd say check out the Daiwa tatula with the t-wing or the gold standard, Shimano curado. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 4, 2016 Super User Posted February 4, 2016 That model of Fenwick is my favorite jig/soft plastic rod. You spoil it by putting a Diawa reel on it though. I'd recommend a Chronarch 50 or something else that said SHIMANO on the side of it. Quote
