TrapperJ Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I'm not even sure how to describe it, just smells a little different, not like typical plastic lure smells. Maybe it's just me? Maybe it's off? Maybe that's just how they smell? had some old roboworms still in bag, in my garage I bought 2 years ago, and I'm just paranoid don't have anything to compare if that's their normal smell or if something got into them? But I don't know what it could be. i will say all my old bags do smell the same, I'll have to grab a new bag this weekend to check I'm all paranoid now. Lol Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 4, 2016 Super User Posted February 4, 2016 No scent added to Roboworms other than dissolved salt. Tom Quote
TrapperJ Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 Maybe something did get on them, cause they have a scent. Unless it's the plastic? 1 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 They do have a light "scent" even though there may not be an official scent added. It might just be plain worm oil. Either way you have nothing to worry about. Unless it smells like straight gasoline, it's all in your head. If it is still gonna bother you, add a few drops of your favorite scent to mask it. Quote
Kidflex Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 All my roboworms smell strong. Noxious actually. Can't stand the smell of them. Very plastic/chemical like Quote
primetime Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I know exactly what you are saying..The Roboworms have the smell of "oil"?? compared to most plastics, I have a few other soft baits from Japanese companies that are buoyant that smell the same way. Roboworm adds salt but once the salt is gone they are very buoyant, and I have never had fish not strike them because of the smell. With that said, I like to apply Scent to most of my plastics that I intend to use for the day, So I usually soak some in a tub of gulp, and some just get Megastrike....I usually make a tub and fill it half with gulp liquid, then put some megastrike in the tub so it is more like a paste, but Megastrike stays on your baits and lures a long time...I like using the Gulp to soak baits that I want to float like ZMAN plastics to get the salt out....I do the same with Roboworms but I have only used the basic finesse worms, not the other styles.. I hope that helps but I know the smell you are talking about. I have also smelled it from custom hand pours that I wanted to float without salt.....Maybe someone who pours worms would know what the deal is..PVC mixed with Silicone maybe? Never was into pouring, but I am sure some people are experts at what is in each bait..... Quote
TrapperJ Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 Ok cool so maybe I'm not crazy ha was just getting paranoid thinking crap if I go fish these what if it's the reason for no bites ha i still plan to buy a pack this weekend to confirm. yea I'd say "plastic smell" is probably it nice job @primetime on the lure soak may have to give it a try! Sounds like a winner for any baits! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 4, 2016 Super User Posted February 4, 2016 Ignore the smell and take them fishing. Add a dab of MegaStrike and you're good to go. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted February 4, 2016 Super User Posted February 4, 2016 they "grease" the robot bearings with a special cologne.... the fish go crazy for it! 4 Quote
bunkerbstr Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Yeah, just lather with Megastrike or Smelly Jelly. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 The worst smelling plastic I've ever smelled are the Skinny Bear Shad Eye Drop Shot lures. I opened the pack and took a whiff and thought I was going to pass out. Quote

Can't stand the smell of them. Very plastic/chemical like ^This^ !! ... I have a bunch of Roboworm bags in my temp controlled basement - after a year or more they smell aweful like the plastic has "out gased" or something ! While many people say don't worry about the chemical smell - I do (it's a confidence thing...) Therefore , I wash the long stored Roboworms , then put them in a small freezer bag and hit them with some smell good (i.e. your favorite scent ) added. 2 Quote
I.rar Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I also know the smell. I love fishing roboworms but have mixed feelings once they develop that smell. They still work but whatever they end up smelling like after sitting for a while is strong. Oddly, I noticed only the straight tails get that way but the alive shads don't. Or maybe I go through the shads quicker than the others. Either way, I add megastrike. Quote
"hamma" Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 i had the same thing happen to mine,.. i just put them in a ziplock bag with some real craw,...they work fine Quote
