Just to fish - not to get lessons, or improve any particular skill set - Bill Dance.  There may be better fishermen, there are folks who have shown to be great teachers in any area, and there are some who are funnier, more exciting, more whatever.  But, I grew up watching Bill Dance.  His show inspired me to go beyond the fishing I was taught as a small child and because of him I saved up money (birthday, Christmas, etc lol) and put in my first order of "Bass Lures" from the Bass Pro catalog over 30 years ago.  Now, I had no idea what I was getting - but I had about $100 dollars worth of gear that I just KNEW would put me on fish like Bill caught on TV.

Never mind I wasn't fishing lakes.  Never mind that we didn't have those lunkers in WV that he caught on TV.  Nevermind that I thought he was catching all those in half an hour... I had the big jerkbaits, and whatever else I got, and just KNEW I was going to slay them.  Well, it didn't quite work out that way...lol.

But, when it comes to fishing icons, there is just no one like Dance.  Roland, Shaw, Hank, KVD, Ike, and ton's of others are great, and would be a ball to fish with, but if I had once chance it would be no contest.  I would be gone fishin', with Bill Dance today!

I've probably learned more from Bill Dance about fishing (not just bass) than any other TV personality, and he seems like a genuinely nice guy that would be fun to spend a day with.

DAD of course

and anyone that knows more  than me about catching Bass ,  as long as they smoke and put the butts in their shirt pocket, don't through stuff in  the water or on the ground. ;)

1) My grandfather (not famous but the one that taught me how to fish)

2) Shaw Grigsby on Okeechobee Lake. (he has way too much fun)

3) Michelle Jalaba (if I wasn't catching anything at least the scenery would be beautiful)

IMG_1331.JPG My great-great grandfather. According to my grandmother when he came to New haven in the early 1900's from Sicily he peddled fish out of a push cart. He would row his 10ft boat out into new haven harbor and fish for blackfish, fluke and others.

This picture is from a local newspaper sometime in the early 40's. He rowed out to the breakwater looking for blackfish, on his way in he found this monster stranded on a rock by the receding tide. Claws to tails it was 24 inches and weighed around 20lbs.

G-Man was my first response.

But Mark Rose is on fire at the moment. He's humble, down to earth and gives God the glory.

I can't say just 1.  First my Grandfather who took me to Canada for Pike, Musky, Walleye when i was 14.  He went with my Grandmother every year and there were 3 of us grandkids.  We could not go until we got old enough and strong enough to pull our own weight.  We flew into a wilderness camp and had to carry our own water and chop wood.  I got to go 1 year before we lost him to Leukemia.  Second, my father who was not really a hard core fisherman but the joy he got from me taking him to secluded waters to float fish Smallmouth (100 fish days) could never be equaled.  As a matter of fact his request to have his ashes scattered in the water I took him to was the ultimate honor to me.

Mariko Izumi?

She is easy on the eyes. But, how could you listen to her for more than five minutes, and not throw her overboard?

Definitely my late grandfather. He passed when I was 12, before I was old enough to become my own man.  As an adult, there is so much we would now have in common and share together. Between my schooling, cancer diagnosis when I was 15, meeting the love of my life, and fishing, there was so much I wish he could have been there for. My family always talks about how different our life would be with him here; how big a part he would have been.

I take a lot of pride in what I have accomplished and overcome in life, but it never feels complete since he wasn't here to see it.

He was definitely more of a eatin' fish kind of man, not so much a bass fisherman, but regardless, a day on the water with him, for him to see what I have become...

George Bush.  I remember watching the news when I was younger and they reported that he was something like 100 days fishing without a fish.   So I'd out fish the president.

Rick Clunn to pick his brain because there is no one better at finding fish when the conditions and electronics aren't in everyone's favor.

KVD just because I'd like to huck spinnerbaits at his pace for a day.

I fished with a guy who spent a day in the back of Clunn's boat once. This guy has fished a lot of opens with a lot of guys.

Maybe Clunn was just in a bad mood, but my friend said he never fished with a pro who was such an a-hole in his life. This was around 2000 or so. Wouldn't talk to him; my friend never asks for advice but most pros (in his experience) make suggestions here and there and tell them the day's strategy. Clunn didn't say a thing other than we're moving now and other procedural stuff like that.

Id like to spend the day with Scott Martin catching peacocks. Ive seen some of his videos and he seems like an awesome guy.

I think Zona and Iconelli would be a blast.

But I'd still go back to the first of the thread... My DAD, and actually my Father In Law too. (never fished with him). Dad's been gone 10 years now, and we just had the first anniversary of losing my FIL.

It is those two guys being the reason my wife said we were buying a bass boat. I grew up fishing/having a place on High Falls, bream, crappie, catfish and my wife did the same thing all around the Atlanta area. To have the opportunity to fish with either of them again would be worth taking years off my life.

FWIW... took me till the ripe young age of 60.... this week to buy my first bass boat! We'll fish it this weekend, as we put old antique crankbaits on our lines (that belonged to our Dads) and raise our rods to them teaching us how to fish. With no doubt tears in our eyes.:crying-baby-2:

Jason Lucas. Though we both prefer to fish alone is love hear his thoughts on how bass fishing turned into a comercialized monstrosity.
