Seen video on You Tube, showing/featuring, Professional Bass Pro Ott Defoe on working chatter baits, he mentioned having his guy, Tie on his trailers. (with some kind of sting)

Question #1: Does any members physically tie, soft plastic trailer to chatter bait or jigs directly to hook/keeper, with thin twine?

comment: Think the video, was on using them to, bounce off bottom and skipping under docks.

Question #2: By gluing and pushing up on keeper, does that not, glue skirting?

Thanks for your thoughts,

I don't tie or glue, the chatterbaits I use have built in plastic keepers that hold my trailers in place well.  Also I use mainly single/double tail grubs for trailers and the bodies are big enough were they won't slide with normal use.  The one exception I found are the Original Z-Man chatterbaits with no plastic keeper whatsoever - trailers will slide down that thing like a pig on a greasy waterslide.  Don't fish chatterbaits that don't have a plastic keeper!

All my chatterbaits have a keeper as well. The plastic will come apart before the lure slides off.

I just push mine up onto the keeper, no glue needed and they'll skip just fine.

Same....in fact the heads I had/used to use to make my own didn't even have a keeper barb for the trailers, and they stayed put just fine. The new heads I use now have a keeper, but it was never an issue for me, and I didn't switch heads because of the keeper.

Does anyone replace the trailer with a craw like the smaller Speed Craw? Does it harm the action or cause lift?

I had one of these years ago and it rusted in my boat hatch so I tossed it. I just got another in black/blue. I never use plastic spinnerbait trailers (I do use trailer hooks though).

I saw the same video, he doesn't tie on the trailer. His traveling partner ties the skirts on and he also ties on a trailer keeper, and it is probably a piece or 20 gauge wire he ties along side the hook collar and then puts a bend in the end of it to hold the trailer in place.

Thanks, Sir.

Looked at the 5-6 Chatter-baits that, I bought at Seminar. Must be homemade? The heads looked life-like and had good strong hooks w/small split tail worm, pushed up to the head on hook shaft. Was thinking of putting (Rage Tail) or swim/grub trailer and practice using.

Appreciate your input.
