Jd_Phillips_Fishin Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I have been lucky a few times to find some very nice lures that were lost and left behind by other angers. I recently found a Strike King 1.5 and a Norman DD 22. Both looked to be brand new and in pretty good shape. Who else has had some good finds? Quote
fishinghusker Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I lost my mom's "lucky" lure while fishing a few years ago. I broke it off on a snag and she was all sorts of upset. We couldn't remember what it was until the next spring. I was putting the boat in and saw a "something green" in the lake and went to look at it. Low and behold, her lure! My dad framed it for her and it now has a prominent place in their home. It is one of my favorite fishing stories. She now has as many of them as she can get her hands on, in all sorts of sizes. No matter what, she will outfish all of us on it, even if the conditions aren't "right" to use it. It brings her more luck than anything, and she enjoys giving us all grief about it. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 1, 2016 Super User Posted February 1, 2016 A couple of weeks back I found a GoPro in the gulf of Mexico.I have pictures of the person who lost it but cant Identify him . I posted it on Facebook so maybe he will see it . If not I have a new camera . 4 Quote
Burtonxj Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I've got lots and lots of fishing line and I usually find snapped rods all over the Billy Goat trail here in Virginia. Nothing good yet! 1 Quote

Then the catfish anglers with their 50 lb test . Dont want to hook into that stuff while trolling . 2 Quote
Burtonxj Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Always have a small trash bag with me when I'm out anywhere. People suck. 8 Quote

If it's a slow day out on the kayaks we usually try and see who can bring in the biggest piece of trash. Found one of those plastic news paper box's once. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 2, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2016 Finding baits is a hobby of mine. I found a little more than 2 3700 boxes full of baits last year. I've been off to a pretty good start this year with 26 baits so far, including a Jackall MC60 and Molix Vario. Most excited to find an old, discontinued Mann's Loudmouth III though. Use to be my favorite crank but haven't seen on in years. It's already been sent to get new paint to be put into service. I find a couple dozen sexy shad Strike King cranks every year in various versions of the bait. My best day was a day on Table Rock 2 years ago. I found a SK Burner, War Eagle, Wiggle Wart (pre rap), a 100 Pointer, a 100DD Pointer, and a Megabass Vision 110 magnum. There's sort of a trick to it and just having an eye for it I think. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 2, 2016 Super User Posted February 2, 2016 Last year at the the boat ramp I found a pair of locking pliers, and wire cutters. Later on I found two spinnerbaits and a buzzbait up different trees. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 2, 2016 Super User Posted February 2, 2016 I find them up here every now and then. Last year I found an almost brand new 5XD and a Strike King Burner spinnerbait that was hanging in a tree. I know there's a few people who ice fish up here that when the fishing is slow they'll walk the banks of a lake and pick baits up out of trees. Quote
Robeng Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Usually after ice out or as its almost melted, i will walk the shoreline and find baits from last season. Quote

This is becoming problematic at even my small lake with no public access. I hate to see fellow anglers destroying what we all love more than anything. If you hook line, do the right thing and remove as much as possible, throw it in the boat and dispose of it properly. And when you bite the end of a shaky head worm so it fits flush against the jig head don't spit the end of the worm into the lake. I used to do the same thing with creature baits, etc until someone pointed out to me what I was doing. I see pros do it all the time without a second thought. You wouldn't throw your empty gatorade into the water so don't throw any trash into the lake. Sorry for the rant..I just hate seeing that crap. I have found my fair share of lures over the years. I love finding big soft plastics that grow to enormous sizes after being soaked for years. This year, I snagged a few crank baits and jigs that needed only minor attention, such as a new skirt, sharpen or replace the hooks, and they are good to go. I always think of this as the fish gods trying to give me a few freebies after all those lures I lose Soft plastics can get expensive but thats the nature of the beast. I can't get used to losing crank baits and it happens more than I would like. Quote
alzun664 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Found both the frog and perch colored minnow at the same lake on different outings. The Storm minnow stick(?) looks to be an older or discontinued color cause I've tried looking it up and cant find it anywhere. It was just floating against the shore so I figure someone snagged it and snapped off and it eventually made its way to shore. Ditto for the pad crasher which was also just floating there a few feet from shore. It was actually pretty tricky to grab that one because how do you snag a weedless lure? I ended up getting it by using a Jitterbug. The jointed husky jerk was from another lake but the same situation The only positive I can think of to fishing highly pressured lakes is finding lures. Super User fishwizzard Posted February 2, 2016 Super User Posted February 2, 2016 I am a relentless tackle scavenger and sometimes get more excited about a nice find then catching fish. The kayak makes it very easy to get stuff snagged just off shore and I am even working on a little rig involving a 30" magnetic pick up tool with a small blade attached to it so I can gather even more. My best day was in October, I was wade fishing at the base of a small dam and got snagged. I waded over and found I was in a small pile of old sandbags, likely left over from work on the dam. In addition to my spinner I found maybe a dozen other spinners, a few small cranks, and a large squarebill that must have washed over the dam at some point. It was like Christmas. On another river I fish, there is a 1oz kastmaster hanging from a tree on an inaccessible part of the shore. It has been there for maybe a year and marks a very productive downed tree where white perch always seem to school. My old yak was too unstable to stand in but my new one should allow me to claim my prize! 1 Quote
Last_Cast Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I have a friend that will ALWAYS find something randomly. Last time he found about 20 sinkers and a few hooks. I usually run into used plastics.. no luck for me! Quote
nhpleasantlakebass Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I found this hanging on my dock this summer. I find lots of lures living on a lake nut this is the most expensive so far Quote

Super User Senko lover Posted February 11, 2016 Super User Posted February 11, 2016 I've found some Lucky Craft baits and lots of other stuff. I always look out for them. Quote
Derekbass02 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I have found a few decent baits before. Once I found a jerkbait stuck in some weeds a few feet down. Never have caught anything on it yet. Quote
Turtle135 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I reeled in a 5 dollar bill on a crankbait once (it fought like a ten). Once I managed to snag someone's lost stickbait on the front of a jig I was throwing and had a 4 pounder eat both at boatside. If I can remove a big wad of discarded fishing line I consider it good karma and the bass gods will smile upon me. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 11, 2016 Super User Posted February 11, 2016 A beautiful chartreuse crankbait in a tree that was only accessible at high tide in a creek off the Chickahominy River. Looked like it was casted only a few times and at low tide so the owner could not get to it. Take it with me but have not thrown it. Afraid I will get it stuck in a tree! Quote
Shaggie Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 This summer I found a pair of Oakley Gascan sunglasses that sat at the bottom of the lake for a while. I polished the lenses and they're a bit water stained but usable. I found a lure I hooked between 2 rocks. I also found a drivers license with an ATM card that expired in 1997. I called the owner and sent them back to him. Quote
