Several people said Mann's Baby 1-minus.... but I have a question. Why do they look so bad? The paint designs are horrible and the plastic looks cheap and grainy (no clear coat). I did just notice there's an "Elite" series with a little better paint. What is the "color name" of 1-minus you guys have good luck on? Thanks again!

Mann's is probably abiding by the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' rule ;)...Firetiger and Rootbeer/Chart. are the 2 colors I throw the most.  I like the Elite model because the hooks area little better, I replace the hooks on the standard model.

As mentioned the manns baby 1 minus is very good ( bass color) and my # 2 choice.

My # 1 is the BPS the egg in xxx shad color. This is a 7/16 oz, 2" bait that cast a long ways to cover a lot of water with a nice wobble. Runs less than a foot deep. Great for that skinny water.

I replace the hooks on both baits as the stock hooks aren't very good.

Have you considered a lipless crankbait like the SK Red Eye Shad or a Rattle-Trap? I fish these in under 3 ft all the time at local lakes. The big benefit of lipless cranks is that they sink instead of diving, so you just countdown to let them sink to the proper dept before retrieving. In shallow water you simply begin the retrieve as soon as the bait hits the water and then control the depth with your rod tip.

Agree that Baby Minus 1 seems to be a cheaply produced bait...I always replace the trebles except those that come with the triple grips (elites as noted I think).

I have best best luck on grey ghost on cloudy days in semi-clear to clear water and the shiny shad color (not sure name) on sunny days.  Stained to muddy water black/chart and the red and orange bait has been really good.  Only colors I hadn't had much luck on are the translucent colors but I haven't given them much of a chance either.

H20 express scsfw wake bait in bluegill color. I run it in *** ft of gin clear water and I pound small mouth and large mouth on it. I run it on 10lb mono. Run it super slow and it will leave a very nice big wake or run it a little faster and it will run about 6-8 inches at the most.

Yeah, that's a killer bait in that color. I have a few in other colors too. My only complaint is that the front hook catches on the lip occasionally during casts.

And as others have stated, hard to go wrong with a Baby 1 minus. Killer shallow crank, but terrible hooks. You'll need to change the hooks to some better trebles.

Haven't gotten to use it much yet but I'm really excited about the new 6th Sense Movement 80X because a lot of our lakes are also shallow and stained. It's a pretty good sized bait with a very wide, thumping wobble, and loud rattles.

I got 2 of the 80x that I can't wait to break out when it gets a little warmer. 6th sense came out with a wakebait version of the 80x also. Only gets 1 ft deep.

Another vote for the Mann's baby minus 1

Something a little out of the norm would be a new bait most likely. The 80x might be your ticket or any other "new" style bait. But if you're after numbers and a confidence builder Mann's Baby 1-Minus all day for me. These just catch fish for me.
