Fishinthefish Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Do you guys have a preferred knife, or head lamp you guys bring with you? I use a Tops Jackal 5 knife. I'm currently looking at getting myself a headlamp so I'm looking at the nitecore hc30 headlamp. Quote
Burtonxj Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Usually have my benchmade 940 on me and with the sun setting early in the winter months I also use a Petzl Tikka for light when I have to hike into various spots. Cant go wrong with Petzl or Black Diamond for head lamps. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 1, 2016 Super User Posted February 1, 2016 Carried it since 1974. 6 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 1, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 1, 2016 I have several knives in the boat and truck, none that are a favorite. I use an Energizer headlamp from WalMart. I don't need anything special for a headlamp at night because I leave it off as much as possible, just turn it on to retie or unhook a fish. 1 Quote
Shaggie Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I use this headlamp nearly everyday at work and bring it home when I know I'll be in the woods in the dark. I works very well and is very comfortable. Battery life is very impressive and having 4 modes of light output is helpful. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Energizer-Hard-Case-Professional-3AA-70-Lumen-LED-Headlight-TUFHD31PE/202493491 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 1, 2016 Super User Posted February 1, 2016 I have a hundred knives and usually carry more than one . When fishing I carry a Leatherman Multi Tool . Mine has a diamond file that is an excellent hook sharpener . I can even sharpen trebles with it . I EDC a Swiss army Knife and often throw something else in my pocket . Whatever floats my boat . Sometimes I wear a fixed blade like Catts Sharpfinger . Catfishing from bank I take an Ontario SP5 with a 10 inch heavy blade , I got that knife in a trade with Maximus Redneckus . Its a beast .I use it to clear a fishing spot . The Mora Clipper can be had for less than fifteen dollars The plastic sheath is cheap but can be clipped on your , belt , waistband , pocket... Its a nice utility fishing knife . 9 hours ago, Catt said: Carried it since 1974. Sweet . I have one too . picked up these two at a knife and gun show last winter USA . 2 Quote

WI_Angler1989 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I use my ESEE Izula 2 for everything, fishing or not. That's always on me. As for a headlamp, honestly I have one I got from a friend while camping and it works well. I believe it's Ozark trail. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 1, 2016 Super User Posted February 1, 2016 I have a nice little radioshack light in the sheath of a Leatherman . I would like to find a clip for it to attach to the bill of a ball hat . Quote
junyer357 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I normally just carry my streamlight strion for a light. I carry it everyday for work, i just throw in a red or green filter for fishing after dark and only use if needed to preserve my ntural vision at nite. I always have a larger one handed opener, baby swiss with sissors, and have a multitool in tacklebox. I just keep a pair of needlenose in my back pocket for hooks. On the boat i also have a large fixed blade for cutting limbs and such quickly when needed, several needlenose, and another multi tool plus a small toolkit in a waterproof box. Quote

I haven't carried it since before Nam. I either have a Kershaw or Spiderco in my pocket, so I don't bring a knife with me specifically for fishing. I gave my headlamp away because I had to tilt my head down for it to illuminate what I was doing and I wear bi-foals. I keep a pen light clipped to my shirt pocket and hold it in my mouth. 2 Quote
SPECIAL ENGINEER Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I usually carry a benchmade mini griptillian but sometimes swap in a Kershaw or spyderco. I also keep a bright orange SS Mora companion in the tackle box. I carry a Zebralight H52w flashlight every day and will bring the head band with me when I go fishing. It runs off of a single AA and can run for several hours on the lower settings. It even has some low settings that are so dim that they will not effect your eyes adjustment to darkness. You can also rotate the light in the holder on the headband. 1 Quote
