Kyle46N Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Just curious if anyone has had a chance to hit up any of these Wal-Marts closing around the country. Looks like most of them are throughout the south. I read an article of upwards of 50% off, and finishing at 75% off of everything in the store. Sorry, just in case I'm not clear, curious if anyone is hitting up their FISHING TACKLE. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 31, 2016 Super User Posted January 31, 2016 There's maybe 6 Walmarts closing, many of the little markets are shutting down and they carry grocerys and such 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 The one nearby where I live closed doors permanently last Thursday. I hit it up when it was 50% off, posted what I found in another thread on these forums. They did mark everything down by 75% for the last Wed/Thurs, but I'm willing to bet the shelves were all bare by then. Quote
Ohio Archer Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 How bad does things have to be for Walmart to close unless they are building a newer location? Quote

Lots of things happening. only 12 US supercenters are closing and they are opening more than they are closing Quote The domestic store closures will mostly impact the company's Walmart Express stores, which account for 102 of the closings. These small stores, which are comparable in size to a dollar store, had been in pilot since 2011. They were rebranded as Neighborhood Market in 2014. Also domestically, Wal-Mart will also close 23 Neighborhood Market stores, 12 Supercenters, seven stores in Puerto Rico, six discount centers and four Sam's Clubs. Internationally, Wal-Mart is closing 115 stores, including 60 recently shuttered, unprofitable stores in Brazil, which represent about 5 percent of that market's sales. The remainder of the stores are primarily small, money-losing stores in other Latin American markets. The world's largest retailer also said it will open 50 to 60 Supercenters and 85 to 95 of its smaller Neighborhood Market locations in the U.S. during the fiscal year that starts Feb. 1. That's in addition to between 200 and 240 international stores, and seven to 10 new Sam's Club locations. More than 95 percent of the closed U.S. stores are within 10 miles of another Wal-Mart store. When possible, it will transfer store associates to nearby locations. Quote
Ohio Archer Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Ok, I think I heard of them closing the smaller ones but not the bigger stores. I think BPS buying Cabelas is still in the works but they are building a new BPS and closing the older one in a defunct mall near here. We have a Walmart on either side of us (5 miles either direction) and now will have a BPS about 7 miles south and a new Cabelas 4 miles north. I don't make enough money to live that close to them. jamey1e Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I work on the logistics side of Walmart and stateside there closing mostly express stores along with a few others but building a ton of new supercenters in the next few years. I heard but can't say for sure that one of the supercenters local to me had all the outdoor stuff 50 to 75% off. I would have cleaned house! Quote
Shaggie Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 The only Walmart in CT that was closed was a grocery store. Zero fishing stuff. Quote

Walmart created the smaller stores in their words as "Guerilla stores" to attack Publix by placing them close to Publix stores and using their buying power to hurt them. It must not have worked and it is truly thrilling to see the mighty stumble if not fall. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 The one that closed near me was, well, in a not so nice area, and, they had opened SuperCenter about 2 miles away a couple of years ago in a much nicer area. Quote
