Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 4, 2016 Super User Posted February 4, 2016 Nothing is going to stop a determined, experienced thief. Guys have had Loc-R-Bars torn off their boats, wrecking the hatches and covers in the process. I keep very little in my boat when I travel, and, I leave it unlocked. If they want to steal my pee bottle, they can have it. Take your gear into the room where you are staying, and then take what you plan on using when you leave the room. It can be a pain, but not as much of a pain as having all, or most of your gear stolen from your boat. Talk about ruining a fishing trip/vacation. 3 Quote

The alarm on my boat is just to alert me that someone is farting around where they should not be? 1 Quote
Worm Man 2020 Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 Thank you all, One other reason, I wanted to up-grade, was the factory ones, do not latch down tight, properly. I adjusted (swivel type arm), inside compartment, but it is flimsy metal or treaded shaft. Sorry for not having photos. Brand New 2014 Tracker 190 boat, if that helps. I also agree, LOCKS ONLY KEEP, HONEST PEOPLE HONEST!!! Thanks to all, 14 hours ago, BassnChris said: I agree with Tom. Saw post, about KVD endorsed, one not to good? Thanks Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted February 5, 2016 Super User Posted February 5, 2016 The problem with alarms is that it might make you brash in your response. Tournament angler was killed a couple years ago confronting thieves. Have a plan in your head for what to do if something happens. Take pictures or video from your room from safe distance 1 Quote

Take pictures or video from your room from safe distance Probably, not the case with me. I usually fire off three rounds, and "Yell, Who's out there! Point taken, just kidding, I have two German Shepherds, at my home, and I never leave anything of value in boat. Putting LED lights on and was wondering, if anyone had any experience, with alarm systems, that could be hooked up with those. A deterrent, not to protect urine bottle. Thank you, always appreciate everyone's take on stuff. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted February 5, 2016 Super User Posted February 5, 2016 I had to rush my last post. I wasnt saying not to get an alarm, but having one that sets off your phone and having an action plan in place when itngoes off may be the safest and most expediant option in catching the thieves. 1 Quote

Shouldn't say this publicly but, I don't use the alarm on the lock. Not really loud enough to do much good. A determined thief could still get in but, it would make a LOT of noise. I've got a pretty good list of what stays in the boat and insurance. Quote
