i tried searching this already but the search feature was a little screwy..

ive been making jigs lately pouring them. painting them. then tying with rwire. but my issue is when im using multiple colors. like trying to make a shad pattern swim jig or bluegill.. i cant get the skirts to stay in the right spot. im not using a vice either. any ideas on how to hold the skirt color in the right spot while i tighten the wire enough to hold it??

Get a cheap fly tying vise, bobbin, and some thread as it is the only way I can get the jig to look right.

i got a cheap vise on amazon for like $15 or so and it seems to help me.  i just started tying myself, but the vice holds it well and lets me set just how i want it.  i do one turn with the wire, but not tight, just to hold the skirts down while i get them just how i want.  then a couple wraps and tighten it down....

If you go to my You Tube channel (smalljaw), I did a video on how easy it is to wire tie, just search wire tying swim jig. The method I use involves make the skirt with an o-ring with a 3/16" inside diameter, it will hold the skirt tabs tight while getting the wire in position and yet easily roll off when you're done.  I wrap both ends of the wire and instead of pulling on each side, I put the wire ends together and grab with a needle nose pliers and pull up, this tightens the wire wile leaving the skirt tabs in position because the force is applied equally to both side, check out the video, it is very easy.
