My buddy got a finder for Christmas and was looking for ideas for ways to mount it. I remember seeing a multi-multi page thread about things we have done to deck out our yaks. Anyone have this thread saved or marked?

Not familiar with that thread, but I'm relatively new.  Does your buddy have a yak with scupper holes or is it a sit-in unit?  I have a sit-on-top with scuppers, but I opted to mount my transducer on an arm rather than through one of the holes.  I feel like I have more control in case I run over rocks, etc. The display unit I mount on the gear track on the center console.  It's pretty clean, I think.

I've got some pix in my gallery of what I did to make
a mount... I've got the details somewhere...just not sure
where at the moment.

If at all possible I would mount the transducer to shoot thru the hull. No need to worry about  damaging it on rocks and stumps. Mine is set in plumbers putty behind the seat.

YakAttack Cellblok.  a little pricey, but i drilled ZERO holes and can remove my whole set up in about 10 seconds....

That is sweet! And anything that prevents holes being drilled for a necessary item is worth it.

BlueBasser I love your native. I've had a few yaks and currently have a BPS sink that's 10' and fits in my SUV. I've used a transducer arm over the side bit it tended to drag on weeds.Which is the cool part about a yak is gliding over the weeds. Some sit on top yaks have the transducer recesses in them which I like.  Most of my installations are the "shoot through hull" type.  I'm not concerned with water temps bc the hull assumes topwater temp eventually. That's the temperature most transducers read anyways.  There are LOTS of vids on how to do this.  I bought a battery pack that holds 8 AA batteries for power my Lowrance 3x. For the encapsulation I use RTV silicone filled in a well made from closed  cell foam.  No voids or bubbles is the key.

also meant to mention the shoot through the hull....  i used that method on my previous kayak, a sit in, and it worked pretty well.  it wouldn't immediately give accurate temps, but within a half hour or so it was within a degree or two of the actual surface temp.

if you think about this route, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and in the electrical section find some duct seal.  it's like playdough for construction workers and less than $10.  you can google how to use it.  it's pretty easy to do and removable and you can do it until you get it just right.  when done properly it will be a very clear picture.  it worked very well in my old kayak for over 2 years and was still holding strong when i sold it.
