lo n slo Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 my favorite way may not be the best way, but i fish for them just like i would for largemouth. texas rigged lizards/worms, shakey heads, and lipless cranks. deep docks, brush, deeper structure in general. alotta guys are working the dropshot too, i aint there yet. the lakes i fish here in NC have plenty of spots. i love catching them. edit: depending on where you are, downsizing just a little with the plastics may help you some. good luck. Super User fishinfiend Posted January 28, 2016 Super User Posted January 28, 2016 crankbaits or drops shots have always been good for spots for me Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 28, 2016 Super User Posted January 28, 2016 I havent fished for them for a many years and am not an expert by any means . I use to go to LOZ once or twice a year and would catch bunches of them on bluff ends with 6 inch Jelly Worms . They were not big but they were plentiful . The largest I ever caught , probably approaching 4 lbs, was caught by barely retrieving a Pico Pop { similar too a PopR } just under the surface next to a tree . It pushes a big bulge in front of it and gently swaggers back and forth . Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 28, 2016 Super User Posted January 28, 2016 Out west Spotted bass are usually on deeper granite rock structure with clay. Soft plastics in greens and oxblood with chartreuse tip tails work. Cinnamon brown finesse jigs with chartreuse tipped double tail gubs. Underspins with pearl white Jr Flukes. Tom 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I'm speaking for NorCal and not the one lake with its never ending weed line. 1/2oz Shakey Head and a Kicker Fish Hightail in Junebug. 4" when the water is cold, 7" when it is warm. Fish it normal: shake slack, drag, shake slack, drag, etc. year round. You'll almost always feel the bite. It's a single but very recognizable tap. Quote

Super User bowhunter63 Posted January 29, 2016 Super User Posted January 29, 2016 Craws and tubes and Spinnerbaits.Caught more spots last year then Largemouth or Smallies. Quote
E. Guido Soda Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Around here they bite pretty much the same thing LMB's do, but seem to have a propensity for the chartreuse tailed worms. They kill Zoom Trick Worms - junebug/chartreuse, motor oil/chartreuse, green pumpkin/chartreuse, etc. They also love chartreuse/pepper flake Zoom Lizards. Love the spots - here's a nice Coosa Rover spot from last summer (t-rig junebug/chartreuse trick work IIRC): 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 3, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 3, 2016 Shakyheads, Ned Rig, and spoons. Topwater walking baits if you can find them grouped up chasing bait. Quote
Brian-S Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 As many mentioned, shaky head, crank bait like wiggle warts rock crawler etc, a jig too when fishing docks also and obviously in cold water the A rig as well Quote
