Scorcher214 Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 -Should i use balsa or bass wood for my swimbaits, i think i might be carving them just with a knife (is that easy?)? and -How do i attach hook eyes and a line tie to the bait? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 1: i'd go basswood. just me though. 2: heres how you can make your own line ties and hook hangers, you install them in pre-drilled holes with epoxy. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1221880921 Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 What kind of epoxy, the devcon 2 ton? If so is that sold at like walmart or do i gotta go to like a hobby shop? Also, does walmart sell bass wood? Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Also, does walmart sell bass wood? Negative. Check craft stores or hardware stores. If you have a Michael's near you, they sell carving products for dirt cheap (plus you may be able to find a 40 to 50% off coupon for Michaels, they always have one available). Edit: http://dealspl.us/michaels-coupons there it is. Just keep watching that site, as soon as 1 expires, they just post a new one. My wife uses them all the time. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 i get my basswood at walmart. its in the craft section and it comes in little 5x7" plaques. the thickness is 3/8" which i like for my swimmers. sometimes i'll laminate two pieces together if i want a fatter bait. 97 cents a plaque and i can get about 4 swimbaits out of a plaque and yeah devcon 2 ton epoxy is good for installing hardware, walmart doesn't carry it anymore but local hardware stores should.
