As spring is approaching here in the Va. area and we can start to see the days becoming longer, I am super excited about this coming year, it should yield a lot more time on the water than in years past for me, I am looking forward to hopefully having even a few of you along with me once again, although sadly it will not be in my ever faithful Nitro, I have and continue to read my maps and I am now ready to explore some new water in places that I have fished for years with a brand new understanding, ready to try and perfect some new techniques as well as knock the rust off of some of the more common ones, this year hopefully yields some truly great learning experiences and some memorable fish to boot, I am also looking forward to aiding our veterans with their road to recovery with the hopes that we can have a positive effect on many this year on lakes from all over our great state.

Any of you guys excited about this coming season and are you gearing up for something new?

Good luck and be safe !!!

I'm looking forward to the weather warming up. I've only been workin a baitcaster for about 2 years, and only really recently started using jigs. I'm excited to learn more about how to fish them, flip them, punch them, etc.

Our water has only been frozen for a few weeks but there's a good chance it will be open again by the end of this week if the forecast holds up, and there's no more big freeze in site as of right now on the month forecast. I get as excited for spring fishing as I use to get on Christmas morning as a kid.

Yes!I'm starting to feel that pull of spring .This year I've got a couple of spots picked out to target. One has some fish over 10 pounds that's only 2.5 miles away.Another is about 6 miles and looks good.I also want to get out to some backwoods lakes in the Ocala forest.I hope to have some memorable trips to share with friends and family and try some new baits this year.Another goal is to set a new pb. And to mentor whoever I can,not just in fishing but in life.

I look forward to every year.  This year will bring all kinds of changes as i will finish up my first full year of teaching and i will also have a second kid brought into the mix in july.  After all that, i am looking forward to spending time with the family this summer.

So @Nitrofreak, why no Nitro this season?

First of all Congrats Jason, thoughts and prayers passed along for good health and a safe delivery for mom and baby.

The Nitro burned two pistons on the weekend before Veterans day last year, I took Chop out with me because I had an open seat, the weird thing was that I fired it up the night before we went out and everything was fine, I unloaded it at the dock the next morning and it had a really hard time starting, more than usual, we made it about a mile and a half up the old river arm and ended up trolling back, Chop caught some decent fish which made the day better but when I got home and found out what happened to her, I did a cost analysis on replacement and decided that I would look around first, I found a Pro Craft 19 foot with a 200 merc along with upgraded electronics both bow and console and decided on replacing the Nitro instead of fixing it, I still have it just incase I run across a really good deal on an engine for her but I am enjoying the upgrade, I have only had it out 3 times since I got it and cant wait to explore more with her this year.

I have been really working hard on my skipping baits with my bait casters, there are a lot of uses here for that as well as flipping and pitching up here where I am at, man I hope to see some fatties posted with your success this season !!!

Good luck and be safe !!!

I'm really looking forward to it. Many of my plans fell through in 2015, did not get to go as much as I hoped for. Even thinking about upgrading from my jon boat to maybe a bigger jon boat...who knows. Can't wait.

I know, my past few years have been hit and miss as far as time on the water with the economy and all the stuff happening around the home, always seemed something broke down just before the weekend that I could go or ended up spending my trip money on home repair.

Hope you get that new ride and if you do, make sure to share some pics with us, we love pictures here for some reason...

Anyway, have a great season, good luck and be safe !!!

I can't even barely pitch, much less skip them... i'd love to be able to skip some of the docks and whatnot around here. I've seen HUGE toads hangin out under docks, right next to absolutely slab crappie. I'd love to be able to skip up under and really be able to present baits right in front of them.

Super pumped! Went up to Bass Pro in MD today and loaded up. Have a couple new rod/reel combos I'm excited to try out. Looking forward to that first camping/kayak fishing trip on the upper Potomac! Plenty of trips out to the Cove planned as well. Can't come soon enough.

If you have a smooth concrete floor somewhere that can be used as practice but nothing beats practicing on water, I have jigs, flukes, swim baits and worms down pretty decently, not perfect but with minimal backlashing, or as we like to say around here, "professional overrun", working on skipping crank baits now, at least as much as possible, use jigs when your first starting out, especially arky style, they help the bait stay on top and do quite well, don't try to get as much as you can at first, keep it simple and just make it skip a few feet first, use a medium rod to start but stay with a rod that has a little whip in the tip, that helps a lot, flipping IMO is simple, pitching is a lot more technical, again, start with short distances, bring your bait down close to the front of your reel and learn to use your wrist and you will get the hang of it in no time at all.

you got this, just don't do too much at first and it'll come to ya!

good luck and be safe !!!

Just got back from Cabalas in Pa and picked up some sweet swim baits, something I have been wanting to try my luck at for a long time, the family and I camp a lot over at lake Anna mostly at the state park, the foundation I am associated with "reel American heroes" puts together an event on the Potomac every July, beautiful place for sure !!

Enjoy your equipment, best of luck this season and be safe !!!

Gotta love camping / fishing trips!

If you get out on the Upper Potomac make sure you have some zoom ultravibe speed craws in green pumpkin. Smallies love em up there.

And thanks, you do the same!

Hey, I appreciate the tips. Any and all are welcome. I fortunately have a pool that I have been practicing flipping and pitching in, and I can practice skipping, too. I'm just not sure about the technique. Do you know of any videos that I can check out that might show that technique good? I'm just now getting into jigs, and not many available locally... I went to Bass Pro, but the one here in Destin focuses more on saltwater fishing than fresh... They mostly had football jigs, and a couple of small swimming jigs... Planned on checking out Tackle Warehouse for other jig types. I appreciate your help, Nitro.

I'm stoked for 16. Can't wait for the days to start getting longer and the water to start  warming up. I've already got a d.d. this year. My next goal is a teen.

Nitro, I usually start off a post about you with a good old fashion ribbing...but not this time.

I hope your rods are continually bent with large fish on the end of it...this year.

I hope your new ride purrs like a kitten with absolutely NO issues...this year!

I really hope you have a the greatest fishing season of your life. I can't imagine anyone more deserving!!!

Both fingers are crossed for you, please send some pics my way, it looks like my season will be starting late again.

John

I always look forward to our back and forth ribbing of one another, as a matter of fact, when I opened this up this morning and seen that you had posted here, I already had a smile and couldn't wait to see what you had to say, this was not what I was expecting but it did yield a smile anyway, I know you have a lot on your plate this season and you know you have a spot in my boat if you ever make it down this way, one phone call and I will have the boat in the water waiting on ya buddy !!

This means the world to me my friend, I shall do my best to learn as much as possible from every outing and continue to improve as well, looks like my season "may possibly" start this coming weekend, I will take your post with me, well, at least the well wishing part of it, I will make sure to send some pics your way, that is if I can get my Iphone to work by then, a late start is better than a no start, you just make sure you get ready for it so that you can take advantage of it, I wish for all of your fish to be bigger than you are this season when you do finally get a line wet.

God bless, good luck and be safe buddy !!!
