Pondboss16 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Of course! I usually use spinning setups when fishing smaller crankbaits or if I want a little bit more sensitivity Quote

The friction will eventually wear down on your index finger. Friction from line, which is sharp, whether it's mono, braid or whatever you use. Especially when you are bombing heavier baits or baits that you want to dive a little deeper, it happens. not that you are doing it wrong, maybe i am, but i do not pin the line against the rod. the line lays taut on the tip of my index finger from the weight of the bait. i can fish all day without any finger discomfort. IneedAnewScreenName-33448 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 yes you "Can" but i perfer baitcasting setup because i get the best accuracy and distance, but spinning gear you can get the bait out there which means the bait gets to depth faster. so its really your chose Quote
jitterbug127 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Yes of course you can. I think spinning gear is the most versatile there is. Having said that I've got a bc in my hand 90 percent of time. Spinning gear is easier to use and casts farther. I just like casting Quote
smallie.mike Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Yes you can use a spinning reel for crankbaits and other bass lures. Seems like everyone missed the other bass lures part. Pflueger president is a good reel to start with, 30 or 35 size. Shimano reels or daiwa reels in the 2500 size. A 6'6"-7' medium power fast action rod is a good all around rod to start with. And yes a fast action rod will work fine with crankbaits if your only going to have one setup for all your bass fishing. Quote
