I have seen quite a few videos that many say that you can use braid for every fishing application. If that is true I would love to completly make the switch because I love braided line and in the long run it is much cheaper. Your opinion would be much appreciated.

Ive used braid for all applications the past 13 years. If you need more abrasion resistance use a leader. If you need more give use a more moderate rod or loosen drag.

I use braid for absolutely everything. I throw a leader on of 100% flouro if I need to but that's about it. I don't own anything else but a 12lb mono for backing.

Been using Power Pro with medium or medium light rods for years. Only time I use mono is for panfish, then it's 4 lb throwing beetle spins.

Braid is great in vegetation, it will cut through plants like a mowing machine.  Around rocks, not so good.  If a decent fish takes it around a rock, goodbye.

No reason you can't do it if you want to. I wouldn't suggest it around rocks or zebra/quagga mussels, but that still doesn't mean you can't if you want to.

Almost all of my reels are spooled with braid for the mainline and it's performed really well.  As noted above, leaders become your friend, and adding flex in the rod for some applications goes far in improving tension on fishy and extending your casting distance.  Having 3-10' of leader (depending upon application) can help keep your visibility low, improve abrasion resistance, improve action, and a lot of other benefits.    A good general rule is to keep your line knot off of the spool, especially with spinning gear.  Search the forum for specifics, but braid with mono or flouro leaders is a hard combo to beat.

I've been thinking about it too. There are some tricks to make braid more economical.

Spool up halfway with cheap mono then tie on the braid and finish filling the reel. No bass is ever going to make a 20 yard run on you.

When you want to spool up a reel, take the used braid off another reel. It'll be new on the end that's been buried on the spool.

I have 20# PowerPro on both spinning combos and 65# on 2 BC combos. The 65# does not seem to deter bites. If I thought it did I'd just use a short leader.

I do still have 15# mono on the reel I use for Rat L Traps and bigger treble baits. I just seem to have good luck with it so I see no reaon to change it.

I use braid for everything, and have for years. When I need more abrasion resistance or am fishing very clear water, I add a fluorocarbon leader.

I love my power pro on my spinning reels with a fluoro leader. I use 10 lb on my 5'6' ul and 20 on my ml.
