How was I affected?

I wasted a lot of time making preparations, just in case.  The power never even blinked.  We never lost the connection to satellite television.

What did I learn?  That the guy at the hardware store who told me that 1/4 twenty bolts could be used in place of the standard shear pins on my snow blower was wrong.

Last year when we got over a hundred  inches of snow, I only replaced three shear pins.  I went through about ten standard bolts when I got into the slush (not frozen) that the town plows deposited in front of our mail box and at the end of our driveway.

Alas, better too weak than too strong.

Off to the John Deere dealer today for a supply of the original equipment shear bolts.

18" - 31" depending on where you were in the MD/DC/VA.  I got about 23" with drifts over 36"+.

Doing the math,  my son and I shoveled 2040 square feet of snow,  and that is just the path I had to dig out of my culdesac to the street.  That is not including my driveway and walkway to the door.  I feel like I've been punched from my butt cheeks to my shoulders.   Getting old is not for sissies.

The business park where I work,  cleared the main path between the warehouses and the steps to the building but,  they piled the 8-9' piles of snow from the park,  right in front of our door.  I had to climb throught 3' drifts to get to the steps that they cleared.

Doing the math, what really tells the story is how many cubic feet of snow you moved.  That would be the 2040 square feet X 2 feet (average) deep = 4080 cubic feet.  Now, that's impressive.

Factor in the drifts and the amount of snow you actually moved is even larger.

Although still a huculean feat,  I had already included in my calculations,  the depth of the snow.

24 x 102 x 10 = 2040.   While my body certainly feels like I shoveled 4080,  it was only 2040.  My error in the post was not using the words cubic feet.

I have been blessed with a large,  strong body but,  I don't want anyone to think I am Superman...LOL
