Hey everyone.

Im looking to get some experienced ideas, on a GOOD QUALITY snap. I dont use them, always tie direct. But my wife likes the snaps,to change baits quicker. So im lookin for some good ones, cost doesnt matter :)

Using worms,cranks, etc.

Thank you......

Quickswirl makes an awesome snap, kind of a snap, the lure spirals on it. The attached picture shows the snap I used for a week pulling off of snags on reeds. Instead of bending straight and losing the bait, it deformed  to a more closed state ensuring I didn't lose the bait. Only problem is they run about a buck a piece.

The most compact snap is Owner welded Quick snap, Owner makes a snag less dual lock snap and Cross Lock snap.

What's a good all-around size for a snap?

For crankbaits you look at the size based on lb test rating; 25-40 lb. test, 1/2"-3/4" long. There isn't any standard size chart to use!

OK. I was looking at the VMC DuoLock snaps recommended by DVT. They come in number sizes from 00-6? or something.

DuoDual locks snaps are made by several companies Berkley, Mustand, VMC, Owner etc.,

size 1 is common number for this style snap.

I use Mustad Duo locks for crankbaits and what other things I need snaps for.

I like a duo-lock type snap, be it from Bass Pro or
other retailer.

As well, and I'm not in the majority, I really really like
Norman Speed Clips (smaller size, below). Have had great
success with them over the years.

Set the drag a little looser if you're gonna use a snap. I had one straighten out on the first big bass of 2015. It was a good brand. Norman, I think. I started tying direct ever after. They may catch 200 bass, no problem, but tackle rarely fails you on a small fish.

I've been using sebile snaps on my silver buddies this winter - kinda of small for my big fingers but they seem extremely strong for the size

I tried a few different kinds and kept having troubles with them opening up from time to time. Then, I tried the Gamakatsu and never had that issue again. I will admit that the trade off is that the can be a PITA to get on the lure sometimes, but I'll take that over losing a lure.

I only buy snaps and terminal tackle from premium brands since they are all relatively inexpensive and the most important link to landing fish..

I buy what is on sale and like the Norman Speed clips, Spro clips, anything that says Owner, Mustad elite etc...Just make sure you buy the right size and lb test rating for the application. I would not skimp on buying snaps and swivels since I have seen guys in saltwater lose nice fish due to a cheap snap or swivel not holding up....

I look for clearance on the Spro snaps personally as they are my favorite just because I have never heard anyone say a bad word about them. With that said, I try to never use them, I like tying the loop knot but I know it is personal preference....I only use a snap if I want to get weight on the front of a lure...

I've used just about all of them. Kahara quick lock snaps are the best I've used in terms of quality and function. Size 0 will cover all your cranking needs.
