Can this be done? If so how big of a project is it? Any info on this would be excellent, thanks guys!

I haven't heard of anyone doing this and doubt it could be done at reasonable cost with reasonable results.  If you want a 2 piece, get a 2 piece blank - it will probably be a lot cheaper and better.

And, why destroy a good rod?

Suggest investing in a two piece rod.

Remember, the blank is manufactured to perform as a one piece rod so if you break it in half you will be destroying the backbone and its strength.

It can be done.  With good results.  You would have to used purchased ferules.  And, any modification would void any manufactures warranty on the original blank. 

I myself won't do it and won't do it for customers.  There are just to many other blank options out there that should fit the bill.
