Just wanted to ask what you guys do to organize your tackle for multiple baits. What I mean is....you buy 5-6 of the same baits, of the same color. Do you store them all together? Or do you slip 2-3 in your box and just place the rest in storage?

I seem to do the later and just storage what extra's I have. The problem I have is that I find boxes of stuff years later that I forgot I had, or I will order more baits forgetting that I have some in storage. Recently I found a box with some older (guessing 90's) Bagley's cranks, Big O's (both reg and baby), pop'rs, super spots and torpedo's. Think I just need to be more diligent.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Well, I have been fairly successful in facing my addiction the past several years. With the exception of jigs and jerkbaits I only buy things I am going to fish. Unfortunately that was not always the case. I am REALLY trying to fish everything I own, at least once, but 90% or more has only been in the water one time and that was in my pool. My "reserves" are probably 4X what I carry and I carry a lot.

I don't know how well these pictures will show how I organize my stuff. I made the decisions several years ago that taking so much of what I own on an outing was counter-productive and realized I didn't need 1/2 , or more, of what I brought.

I thought a little about it and decided to organize my baits within sight instead of having 10 or more tackle boxes/bags to store. I was fortunate enough to have enough room In the last two houses I have owned and went the pegboard route. I know exactly what I have, know when to order more, and never forget I bought a particular bait(s).

To some It's aggravating to pick baits off a rod to load in my tackle bag for the day but for me the night before preperation is most always fun. I, like others, go seasonal so there are baits that stay In the bag for that season, for Instance for the Summer there's always a staple of worms that stay In the bag and are replaced when needed.

It's a system that works for me but In the end you have to figure out what's best for you.

Just to give you an example.........my squarebills. I keep them in a 3700 box, top row is Storm Arashi 5's, next row down are the Arashi 3's, third row is SK KVD 2.5's, bottom row is SK KVD 1.5's

I use these colors:

Arashi's - bluegill, rusty craw, mossy chart. craw, and baby bass

KVD's - Nat. Bream, Orange belly craw, Chart/black back, and Sexy Chart. Shad

I keep three off each color in the box, extras are still in the package in the house in a storage tote, when I lose one of the three out of the boat box, I get another out. Somedays when the pike are really chomping, I will lose all three of one size color, but almost without exception, the days they are biting that good I can tie on ANY of the other cranks and keep catching them. I have never felt under equipped carrying so "few" LOL.

I keep 2-3 of each with me on  the boat. The rest stay at home. The extras that have been used go into a Plano box,  the new one's go into a storage bin with other new baits.

And I keep all of my boxes and bins organized by style of bait.

With A LOT of help from the fine people at Plano Moldings lol.

My boat has cutouts in it stock to hold the 4-24 stow boxes they make vertically. So I have a T-rig, C-rig, Punch, Plastic Craws, Shakey Head, Drop Shot, Lipless/Shap Rap, Swim Jig, Chatterbait, Jerks, Casting/Football Jigs, Frogs/Topwater, and Small Swim Bait box. Those have all the terminal stuff for each specific technique. I keep three of each type/color of bait I can in every compartment. The leftover go in a huge hockey duffel bag. Before every tourney I go through and replenish whatever is short.

Then there are a tall box for Spinnerbaits, Med/Deep Cranks, Big Swims and Squarebills.

For rods I have three of the Okuma 32 rod storage things connected together and a wall locker for reels, finder screens, scents and terminal tackle.

I might not catch anything on any of it, but I sure as hell know where it is!

Most guys on this site send me their extra lures to "hold for later".  You're welcome to join this trend with your excess fishing equipment.  Oh, almost forgot, the same holds true for their excess stacks of cash, you don't want them lying around getting moldy.

No need to thank me, happy to help.

Thanks tons guys. I will continue doing what I have been but just be more organized with my storage. I usually carry 2-3 of the same bait/color but lately I have been buying more of has worked for me over the years. Especially when I find it on sale.

Just spent all afternoon organizing my reserve inventory of soft plastics, hooks and weights in my wife-designated fishing tackle closet in the garage. Whew!

(God only knows why I have a pack of lavender flukes.)

Most of one side of my garage and part of the back wall are covered with pegboards with extra baits waiting for their turn. Problem is, I sometimes forget what I have and buy more when they go on sale, so I end up with extras for my extras.

II usually dont have multiples, more than two .. The only ones I have are a Bomber Prop A because theyare one of my favorites and were discontinued .Found a bunch in the clearance bin  The other being a long lip Bomber Flat A in chartreuse because they are killer on the Mississippi. I just keep my extras in a plastic storage container .
