Hi,

i have been eyeing the met for some time now and it seems the jdm sites are clearing out the 13s pretty quick at $275.

was hoping to get an opinion on whether people think I should just grab the 13 or wait to see what the new one has to offer.  I like the look of both so that's of no concern, is there any speculation as to if anything is going to be put in it that I can really benefit from on the met 16. Also does anyone know what the new met would go for on the JDM  sites?

thanks

$275 is a reasonable price from some of more competitively priced JDM sites.  It's not necessarily a clearance or blowout price.  They're hard to find at $275, but you can find them for $325 without much trouble.  I've only been in the JDM game for about 18 months, so I'm not as versed in the sales cycle of the reels like many other on these forums.

It's tough to tell (for me anyways) at this point if the Metanium MGL is a replacement or alternative to the 13 Metanium.  The MGL looks to have a newly designed spool and it has a new braking system.  Perhaps someone has translated the Shimano TV clip and can give a few more details.  The 13 Metanium is a fine reel and other than it not being the latest and greatest - it's one of the finest baitcasters out there.

Getting a Metanium MGL is a 'wait and see' proposition for me as I already have a 13 Metanium.  However, I pre-ordered the 2016 Scorpion 70 the moment I was able to.

Unless there's a specific reason you're wanting to wait, jump on the good deal while it's here.

Not it like the 13 Met is any slouch, and at that number I think it's a good value for sure.  If anything, it gets your foot in the Met door- meaning if you don't end up being enamored with it, sell it and you're already a good position of the way there for the new one.  @275 it won't depreciate as much as you'd think.  You don't stand to lose a lot even if it isn't what you were looking for.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting the 13 met... Everyone seems to love it. Excited to get it.

to anyone in Canada.  Do you always get dinged for duties and taxes when you buy JDM reels  when shipped EMS? From what I have read, in the US it is pretty rare, but couldn't find many comments about it from Canadian buyers.
