Just ordered a new spinning reel, had the option to get it shipped free, with economy shipping, or pay $12.95, for 3 to 5 day shipping.  Not wanting to pay $12.95 for what could of shipped for $ 5  so i selected the free shipping, ( Economy Shipping)  It then told me i could expect my order Feb 2 thru the 8th,  that would be 13 to 19 days to receive my reel, This is day 2 and my reel has not started the process yet, Does Economy just mean, since I didnt pay for shipping it can set in the warehouse and give everyone else priority that paid for there shipping, Just wandering if any of you can explain the process, I just needed to vent also, Got a blizzard suppose to hit Ky. tomorrow so guess I wont need it for awhile anyway, Thanks Jeff

You chose the long route, you get the long route :). As long as they get it to you in the projected slot, I don't see why it's an issue.

Oh I understand I chose it, and im doing the long wait,  :) But what i dont understand is how the process is beneficial for the seller, Does this save them money, does it cut down on employees, Why would they even offer it, I would be a lot happier consumer if they charged a reasonable shipping rate, They would get paid for shipping And i would be Happy That my product is on its way,

The cynic in me says that they're making it just a little painful so that in the future, you'll pay them the premium for faster service.  But, I'm no conspiracist, (and have a little experience in warehousing and distribution) so I can tell you that you are correct.  They can save a lot of money in the long run by you giving them the flexibility to level out the workload over the next couple weeks window.  Think about how they'd have to have more employees at all times to handle surges that don't happen at all times....and then during the non-surge times, many would be underemployed for a period.

I don't know who you ordered from, but there is the possibility that the company you ordered from does not stock many of the items they sell online. When you order a reel, they put in an order with their distributor. Often they have to come up with a minimum order so they hold your order until they get enough other orders to make the minimum. That's why it could take a couple of weeks before they ship to you. If you decide on 3-5 day shipping, they may place the order right away but have to pay a premium to have it drop shipped to you with priority shipping. Just one possibility.

Hey Thanks for post that makes sense, It is one of the major fishing and hunting chains, Didnt really want to just bash them, although my first post seemed like it, Just wanted to know why a company would do this, Like Choporoz said probably a crewing issue,

If I have the option of free shipping, I always select that choice.  I have always gotten the product in only a day or two longer than paying for the shipping, sometimes I have gotten the product in same 3-5 business days that I could have paid for.  I don't care why they do it.  I just like it.

I live in a rural area that is 35 miles from stores that will have some things I am looking for.  I can get on line and order the items, have them shipped to my door for free, in less than a week and often tax free, too.

It's also 45 miles to the closest GM and 120 miles to the closest BP.  On line is about the only way for me to go.

The expression, "You get what you pay for.", comes to mind.

You get what you dont pay for?

Having been in the shipping/delivery/logistics business for some time, I can answer that.  The operative word there is "priority".  If you have one customer schedule a delivery for two weeks out, as a business you're going to worry about the customer that schedules their delivery in two days first.  That's the way she goes, Bubs.
