TxHawgs Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I want to try the whole longer leader thing on my spinning rod. I normally run it short enough so the knot stays outside the guides because the double uni knot I'm currently tying is horrible going through reflex guides. And maybe no knot goes through these guides well, but if you know or use one that does let me know, thanks. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 Try an alberto knot. When tied correctly, it stays incredibly thin and is a great line to line knot. If you rush it and it bunches up, you did it wrong. Quote

EvanT123 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I second the Alberto. Do you mean recoil guides? I have a rod with size 1 single foot recoils on it and have not had an issue with the leader going threw the guides. You can hear/feel it but it has extremely limited if any effect on casting distance. Quote
JustinU1X Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 The FG knot is a very strong know but also very easy to tie incorrectly. The leader can end up slipping out of the braid. For that reason I just stuck with the Alberto. Rather fish with a knot I have confidence in and I know is stronger than another knot I tied incorrectly. An Alberto knot tied correctly and proper drag won't break. 2 Quote

Five-Alive Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I used the alberto knot for years and never had any issues with breakage at the knot, last year I switched to the FG knot, also no issues with breakage but I find it to be a more compact knot. I don't have small guides and use a 10 pound braid and a 6 pound flouro leader. These are the two best braid to flouro knots that l have used. Whichever you go with you should be pleased. Quote
TxHawgs Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Reflex lmao, yes recoil on my glx spinning rod. The double uni is really bad through them. Gonna give the FG a shot if it's smaller than the alburto. I'm gonna be tying 20lb braid to 10 or 12lb fluro. Quote
tje0705 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Alberto knot is what I use. Super small and easy to tie. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 21, 2016 Super User Posted January 21, 2016 I use this one. Quote
tander Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I also use the Alberto knot. Fairly simple to tie and you will never know that there is a knot. Quote
TxHawgs Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 That albright knot looks good, just tied up the FG knot and I thought it was easy to tie and it's pretty darn small. Guess I will try the other 2 also and see what works best. Quote
BobP Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I've use the Alberto and the FG knot. Of the two, the Alberto has been more durable and less likely to come untied. However, the FG is the smallest diameter knot I've ever seen for joining braid to a fluoro leader. Quote
Kyle46N Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I've been using some glue on the FG knot for about a month now, and that was the key to it not unraveling. I've been tying it for about 10 months now, and got pretty good at it. Add the glue, and it's perfect. Quote
