How do you guys feel? my son got me 10 gallons of gas tonight. I'm not going to miss being prepared. Quote

68camaro Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Here in central va they are predicting 5 - 8". For us that is like NE getting 4 feet Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 Central VA according to WxRisk who i believe more than any other weather person out there is predicting a lot more than 5-8".....i just hope out starts early enough on friday to cancel school for the day 3 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 The most dire predictions say one to two feet of snow. Scientifically speaking, I got storm insurance. Twenty gallons of 89 octane gas for the snow blower, and 25 gallons of regular gas (all treated with Stabil of course) for the generator. Today or tomorrow I will get the generator in its place (my spray booth with an exhaust fan that runs whenever the generator is running) in case of power loss. As is usually the case when I get prepared ahead of time the storms change direction, and miss us entirely, or we end up getting rain instead of snow. Therefore, southeastern Massachusetts will escape with, at the worst, a dusting of snow. It's settled science. Last year was the exception which proves the rule. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 We got about 3" last night were I am. They were saying we might get 3" to 5". I'm glad we didn't. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 Most of the forecast for my area have low to mid 20 inches Friday evening into Saturday. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 I am a firm believer in "we get what we get when we get it", like the rest of you I like being prepared for the worst and hope that we get the least. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 Blizzard conditions here on Friday. Up to 2" of snow, temperatures dipping below 30* and we are almost out of bread & milk! Quote

Super User bigbill Posted January 21, 2016 Author Super User Posted January 21, 2016 We been snowed in for days a few times. The elders like my mom taught me to have water. Milk. Bread, etc stocked up before the storm. In '78 with the blizzard we had everything from frozen pizza to party food. This kept the kids mind off the storm. We played games while the snow piled up past thewindows. Each experience with heavy snow fall and being snowed in teaches us something. In '78 is we lost power we would of had no heat for days. In '79 I installed a woodstove. I could cook a Italian spaghetti dinner on the woodstove top. Make toast, cook anything. Bake potatoes in the fire. It's good to teach the kids about survival too. Being prepared before the storm is the key. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 21, 2016 Super User Posted January 21, 2016 Well, the storm is about an hour away. Heavy rain all night changing to snow around 5:00 AM. The City of Memphis is CLOSED! Quote
