Catch 22 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 On jigs,I use clear finger nail polish very often. Hansen "hard as nails" works well but it got to be to expensive,so I went to the $1 a bottle stuff. It seems to work as well.I use super glue on threads some time. The clear nail stuff can enhance plugs that got beat up. What do you use on threads[if anything] Thanks C22 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 A urethane like permagloss dries thin hard and water clear. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 The reason Sally Hansen's "Hard as Nails" works better than others is because it does get harder than others and it is really thin so it penetrates deep in to the thread. I've tried the cheap clear nail polish and there is a reason it is cheap, it will not stay clear and after fishing my hair jigs, the ones I don't loose right away seem to have bare thread with no protection. The only other stuff worth putting on is Hard as Hull head cement. Quote

Most the guys in the local fly club moved away from HH.Thanks for the input. C22 Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 29, 2016 Super User Posted January 29, 2016 For flies, jigs, and lures, I've been using NYC brand (Target) at $0.99/ bottle for several years now. Seems to work fine. No yellowing, and wears pretty well. For rod-wraps I use rod-finish epoxies. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted January 31, 2016 Super User Posted January 31, 2016 For rod wraps I don't recommend anything but products designed for rod wraps. Quote
Lyman X Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I've been using Diamond II for some time now and I'm having a hard time trying anything else! I love it! Available ay Voo-Doo rods. By the way thanks to the moderators for giving us builders our own forum! Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 12, 2016 Super User Posted February 12, 2016 Color preserver for initial seal and air displacement, then Threadmaster or Flexcoat finish. Quote

Super User S Hovanec Posted February 22, 2016 Super User Posted February 22, 2016 I've moved away from using color preserver as I've really become fond of the transparent look of nylon without CP. I use Threadmaster Lite for the first coat to displace air and fill the tunnels. Second coat is Threadmaster regular. If a third coat is needed to touch up some stick-ups or exposed threads, I'll use regular Threadamster again. Quote
