So there is someone local to me selling a td sol reel on a mojo bass rod. He is selling the combo for 90$.  I told him I wanted it and i plan on picking it up  friday.  I could not find any reviews on the reel. Anyone here ever use it?

The TD sol is great little reel that was sold in the US but made in Japan. It is basically the same frame as the Alphas series. Lots of tuning parts and upgrades available too. For $90 you made it out like a bandit assuming both are in good shape. Fish it like you stole it!

Here is a review of the reel and it's specs if you haven't read it...

The Sol is, hands down, my favorite reel.  It can handle lighter lures (paired to the right rod) as well as baits in the 3/8oz. range.  The gearing is a little slower than what some anglers prefer, but I believe the IPT is around 26in. which isn't all that slow.

You stole that combo on the value of the reel alone and as was mentioned, there are a ton of upgrades available including gear swaps.

BTW, the reason you can't find any reviews on this reel is because it's been out of production for a number of years, but is still very popular.

Just wondering where the upgraded parts can be purchased

I checked on hedgehog site and couldn't find the reel.  Is it parts off another that fit this? Especially interested in the sv spool.

As "kickerfish1" said in an earlier post, the Sol is based on the Daiwa "Alphas" platform. Sol was the U.S. market model; in Japan, it was the Aphas. So, when looking for parts from JDM sources, look for Alphas parts.

Here in the U.S., you might find some hotrodding parts for a Sol/Alphas at Tackle Trap.

Perhaps one of the Daiwa experts will be along to give you more info...

My favorite site for spools is Japan lure shop. Reliable and their prices seem to be the cheapest. Shipping isn't bad either. Somebody may know a better site but that's what I have been using. And yes, search hedgehog for the alphas parts.

Beautiful and excellent reel, my only beef with it was the handle, Daiwa could have made better if instead of using that stamped metal handle they picked the cold forged TD style handle the Alphas had.
