I found this today while browsing fishing videos.

Looks like an interesting alternative to using a buzz bait or similar noisy top water lures.

so, who's fished it?

I'd like to try one, but the $23 price tag is holding me back

It's like the old Heddon Crazy Crawler except it's even more obnoxious. Doesn't get a lot of strikes but when they do it's vicious and it seems to attract larger than average fish.

Can't imagine it would get a lot of strikes unless we could figure out the best time of year, time of day, and conditions to throw it.

Seems like early morning just after the spawn when you would normally throw a buzz bait, when the water is stained, or when you know the fish are up shallow on flats...   just thinking out loud.

Seems to be best during the middle of the day when you'd never think they'd hit topwater. I'm sure it would be a good night bait but I have a "no trebles at night" policy.

The bait works and excels.   Jackall makes good stuff and it's worth the $.  Get a binksy as well.  Great combo top water

I have one that I use quite a bit. Does VERY well on the outer edges of weedlines since it would instantly foul up if it's actually IN the weeds. I always think it acts a bit like a more obnoxious cousin to a Jitterbug. I use it any time of day and get hits. It's a good open-water topwater lure. Some of these niche topwaters do very well, the Pompadour, the Whopper Plopper, etc. They have their place and do it very well.

The pompadour is one of my favorite baits. Like bluebasser said when they eat it it's violent.  I've fished both the standard and jr size and they both perform equally.  One thing I've noticed is the fish get the front hook every time and they tend to come out of the water to bite down on it.  It's a real fun bait to fish and you never know when a fish is going to explode on it.  You do need to watch the wings as they will get bent back from the attack.

You can  use the Pompadour in place of a buzzer except it cast better in the wind and has treble hooks for higher % strike to hook up ratio.

Ok, that's encouraging.

why no trebles at night? is it a safety policy or because you think it might be hard to get the fish unhooked?

I don't like having to try to dodge a bait that I can't see when someone gets over excited and sets the hook on the explosion.

Go to gamagatsu's Website and order some double hooks for it. I suggest the 1/0 for your whopper ploppers and pompadour. It will help deal with some of the light weeds. I havent noticed any difference in hook up ratio.

Pompadour Jr. has been tearing them up these last couple weeks as they are suspending just off of bedding areas just about to bed.  Vicious strikes at all times of the day. Sunny or cloudy too but they are absolute gator attractors.

Thanks for all the good info 'cause it's a very cool bait.  I guess I'll have to commit to throwing it a heck of a lot more. Do you recommend throwing it on braid or mono?

I imagine everybody throws it on braid. I don't but I don't use braid for any application at any cost.   I use 17lb. mono.

Copolymer for me.

I fished the Pompadour through the summer and, while it won't be replacing my spooks, it does drum up some angry strikes.

My only gripe is that, compared to the spook, I've had too many instances where the fish come unbuttoned halfway to the boat, for no obvious reason. That's likely not the lure's fault, but something in my setup perhaps, or just bad luck.

The ones I lost did feel like big fish, and the ones I boated weren't too bad either.

I'll be throwing it a lot this season for sure. It's a fun lure and the amused looks I get from other anglers while it does its obnoxious little dance across the water is fun, too.

i've been wanting this one bad, hearing you get summer strikes is really encouraging. Keep this forum updated let me know how productive it is throughout the year/ times of day.

not really a topwater fisherman so this is kinda a leap of faith for me
