Glenn Frey, the guitarist and sometime singer for the legendary 1970s band The Eagles, has died at age 67.

According to a report at TMZ on Monday afternoon, Mr. Frey had surgery for intestinal problems in November and then “in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse.”

“We’re told the cause of death was a combination of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia,” TMZ reported.

Mr. Frey sang many of the Eagles biggest hits, including “Tequila Sunrise,” “Already Gone” and “Take It Easy” (drummer Don Henley sang most of the others).

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and won six Grammys, including several for singles with Mr. Frey on lead vocals — “Lying Eyes,” “Heartache Tonight,” and “New Kid in Town.”

Mr. Frey had a successful solo career in the 1980s, scoring such hits as “You Belong to the City” from the “Miami Vice” TV show, and “Smuggler’s Blues,” which had an innovative video that played like an episode of “Miami Vice.” Mr. Frey had a recurring acting role on that hit show.

I am shocked to see this. I loved his voice and rhythm guitar playing on so many of their songs. I don't usually say this about famous people who pass but Glenn's passing leaves I large void in the music world.

Not many people realize that Linda Ronstadt is the person who brought the Eagles together as a band. She is the one who hired various musicians for her backing band for I think one performance- and they asked Linda for permission to break away and form their own band, and that is the beginning of the EAGLES!

From WIKIPEDIA:

The Eagles began in early 1971, when Linda Ronstadt and then-manager John Boylan recruited local musicians Glenn Frey and Don Henley for her band.[5] Henley had moved to Los Angeles from Texas with his band Shiloh (produced by Kenny Rogers),[6] and Frey had come from Michigan and formed Longbranch Pennywhistle; they had met in 1970 at The Troubadour in Los Angeles and became acquainted through their mutual record label, Amos Records.[7][8] Randy Meisner, who had been working with Ricky Nelson's backing band, the Stone Canyon Band, and Bernie Leadon, a veteran of the Flying Burrito Brothers, joined Ronstadt's group of performers for her summer tour promoting the Silk Purse album.[5][9]

These four played live together behind Ronstadt only once for a July concert at Disneyland,[5] but all four appeared on her eponymous album.[10] With Ronstadt's blessing, Henley and Frey asked Leadon and Meisner to form a band and they soon signed with Asylum Records, the new label started by David Geffen.[11] The name of the band was first suggested by Leadon during a peyote and tequila-influenced group outing in the Mojave Desert, when he recalled reading about the Hopis' reverence for the eagle.[12] Steve Martin, a friend of the band from their early days at The Troubadour, recounts in his autobiography that he suggested that they should be referred to as "the Eagles", but Frey insists that the group's name is simply "Eagles"

Linda was sooooo smoking hot back in the late 1960's and 1970's! I am still in love with her!

Today Linda can no longer sing. Her career is done and over with because she is slowly deteriorating due to the effect of parkinson's disease ravaging her.

God bless you Glenn Frey and Linda Ronstadt! Thanks for all the great times and great music!
