bass raider Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Hey guys I'm looking to pick up a new rod mostly for chatterbaits(3/8-1/2 oz) and spinnerbaits(1/2oz most of the time) and I have been really wanting to try a veritas 2.0(6'9" mh). Would this be a good rod for that or would it be too stiff? I've heard most abu rods are stiffer than what they're rated. Thanks Quote
pwahmy Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 If you're set on the Veritas I would recommend using a medium instead because it will fish more like a MH. -Payton Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 18, 2016 Global Moderator Posted January 18, 2016 I haven't held that particular rod but I use a 6'6" MH LTB for my bladed jigs and like it much more than the m/f I use to fish it on. Quote
Robert Riley Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 If you fish around cover and use a trailer i would recommend the MH veritas. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted January 18, 2016 Super User Posted January 18, 2016 I, like Bluebasser haven't used that particular rod, but I fish my spinnerbaits on a St. Croix Mojo Bass MH/F which are also said to be stiffer than rated. It works perfect for my spinnerbaits, swim jigs, and bladed jigs. I even throw my lipless crankbaits on it too. 1 Quote
Scarborough817 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 i throw mine on a mh/f bass pro graphite series it acts more like a mh/mf it seems to have just enough power to set the hook as i want i have a mh veritas though i haven't thrown chatterbaits on it i feel the hook set would be to quick for a chatterbait Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 18, 2016 Global Moderator Posted January 18, 2016 You didn't mention your price point but I use a 7' 2" MH/F Phenix M1. It's more than a Veritas but an excellent SB/CB rod. Mike Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 18, 2016 Super User Posted January 18, 2016 I use several different brands for spinnerbait/chatterbait rods. The ones I like are very similar to my pitching rods except they are a little shorter (6'8" or 6'9" compared to 7' to 7 1/2') , very similar back bones but a little more "tippy". I've went through more than a dozen rods before I found some that I liked. If you can find an old All Star 6'8" Zell Rowland Spinnerbait special, that is my idea of a perfect spinnerbait rod. Mine are currently on the bench, they need new guides and whatnot. If you throw a lot of spinnerbatis, it is worth the time to find a spinnerbait rod that is "right" for you, rather than trying to "make do". Be prepared to spend money in this quest. Quote
MIbassangler30 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I've owned many Veritas rods and I'm in the process of upgrading all of my setups. I have held on to my 7' MH 2.0 as a back up rod, and one I can let others borrow to help them learn a baitcaster. If you're stuck with the Veritas, I would suggest the MH Winch series. It's going to load up better for casting distance and give you more of a parabolic bend when fighting fish. The regular MH has virtually no tip. I would really suggest looking at the Dobyns Fury, it's in your price range, and it's a much more technique specific rod. The 734c or 704c would treat you well for those applications. Hope this helps. -JC 1 Quote
bass raider Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Forgot to mention but My price range would be up to $180 Quote
bass raider Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Would the 6'6" med be better for those applications? Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 18, 2016 Super User Posted January 18, 2016 St Croix MOJO 7ft MHm. For all the same reasons stated above, plus it's a great super spook/pointer 128 rod. I like mine a lot. Quote
FlipSide Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I use a Denali Rosewood Spinnerbait rod, its a 6'10'' MH Mod Fast rod, and I love it. Quote
long island basser Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I use a Abu Garcia vendetta 6'9" MH/F Works very well for those applications/weights. Quote
curtis9 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I used a loomis e6x mbr843 this year with spinnerbaits. I used that setup more than anything else this year and has the same spinnerbait tied in all year Quote

curtis9 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 3/8 oz bait. I think the rod could handle 1/2 oz, though the 844 is probably the better choice. It depends if you prefer your rods on the heavier or lighter side. Quote
Robert Riley Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 While we are looking at other rods, I'd highly recommend a Savvy or a Fury, as Mlbassangler30 mentioned already. Quote
