Magnesium isn't a high strength metal, about 1/2 the tensile strength of 7075-T6 aluminum or about 1/4 the strength of titanium and about 75% the strength of PEEK thermal plastic.

Not all metals are stronge and make good reel frames.

Well I better sell my steez then before the weak magnesium frame breaks. Do you have any recommendations for titanium or peek thermal plastic framed reels? :)

I just don't understand the need to feel anything through the reel?

All 3 materials will dampen any vibration given off by the bite & would not be reliable in trying to determine if it's a bite or something else.

My reel is in the palm of my hand while my fingers or on my rod; I feel more minute vibrations through my fingers than my palm.

I haven't noticed a difference between my Lews Mag and my Team Lite reels while casting or working any bait. I think owning the mag framed reel is more a novelty.

I want two more reels, I'll buy Aluminum frames. One novelty reel is enough for me. The Lews Tournament Pro and Team Lite reels suit me just fine.

For whatever reason, the '13 Met feels very good and there's something about it that seems to enhance feedback. I'm a believer after reading the TT threads and trying it, but I'm not sure frame material is the explanation as to why.

I don't like mag. owing to its propensity to look like crap if it's within 50 miles of water, generally, and especially so within 5 ft of anything that even smacks of salinity.  IMHO, mag. = marketing...  Not functionality.  I'm sure many will disagree with me...

Not to argue, but I do have to disagree with this statement.  I have several MG reels, some 15+ years old that still look fantastic.  I can honestly say that none of the MG reels that I own show any unusual wear or corrosion.   Anyone else?

Mine don't show any corrosion, BUT they've never been near any saltwater.

It's encouraging to hear that yours have held up well.  I have owned only a single MG reel (a spinning reel, at that), and I made the mistake of using it during an inshore fishing trip with a friend.  I also failed to rinse it afterwards, and I unfortunately had some corrosion when I took it out of storage.  Admittedly, this was user error -- and it's possible that I would have had similar issues with ANY of my reels.  So, I spoke too strongly, I guess.  But I do feel that aluminum is a little more "worry free."  That being said, I want to like MG in a baitcast format for the possible sensitivity enhancements noted above...  I'm just not yet sure whether the rave reviews across the web are as much a function of the material as they are of the fact that most MG offerings are higher-end models that also are inherently well-constructed (and therefore a pleasure to fish).
