Nothing really negative at all. It's just marketed as this mind blowing design that gives you a large increase in casting distance over a normal line guide.

Well, I think the TWS does what it was designed to do.  I don't know that I would credit it with a large increase in distance but I do think it is effective.  I've a feeling that this Steez will be a solid performer.  If I was to completely start over with new reels I would select TWS equipped reels for those combo's I need to make longer casts with, like crankbaits or jerkbaits.  I can get along without it for most everything else.

I think most of the negative talk about the TWS are from people that don't own one. The TWS doesn't give you more distance, but makes it easier to cast. You don't have to put a lot of effort into a cast to make a good one. But IMO, TWS isn't a bad concept...

Last year I purchased my first Tatula type R in the 8-1 ratio. Then I purchased a regular Tatula. I fished both of them hard. I also have a Shimano Chronarch 200E7 which is supposed to be one of Shimano's best.  This spring I sold a bunch of reels off and picked up more of the Tatulas and even an Exceller. I got to fish them hard on our vacation on Dale Hollow and back here at home on the bay. All I can say that for a reel that costs less then $150, that performs that well, Diawa has hit a home run.  That Chronarch will get replaced along with several other reels next spring.  As for the T Wing haters you have not fished a Diawa T wing reel!!!  Also do not compare these sub $200 reels to a Shimano or Lews ... that retail for $400.  Compare apples to apples.  Diawa has hit its mark well.  I expect their new Steeze reels will do the same.

I remember reading a thread a while back on TT about taking off the line guide on a PX type R and having it almost double the casting distance...  While I don't think TWS will quite duplicate that, I do think it's a good middle ground between a regular style line guide and nothing at all.  The beneficial physics make sense in theory, but of course people will ALWAYS react negatively to something new and unproven when the old way works so well.
