I'll admit I have a tatula and like it, but it's despite the t wing not because of it.

Mike, I'm with you on that. The Tatula is a fantastic performer for $90 and even against more expensive reels.

Well, it was evident that sooner or later Daiwa was going to ruin the Steez.

I almost bought one, but spent a little more on the Lew's LFS Tourney MB. I had a Daiwa since '83 that I finally just had to retire. That's 32 years on one reel using it very often. It was my favorite crankin' reel. Daiwa's quality is ridiculous. They even sent me parts for free three times, no questions, no postage. ABU doesn't even respond.

There's nothing inherently wrong with them, but they are not the innovation they're marketed as either. The grooving issue was a blip on the radar and a materials issue rather than a design one.

I have 3 Tatula R's that have worked perfectly now for nearly 4 years.

Every pooh poohed the R's as not worth the extra $ and thought the 8:1 ratio was a gimmic 3 years ago.

Daiwa is dedicated to the at wing, that should be obvious and they wouldn't continue with the T wing design if it was negative to thier sales.

For me the main gripe is that the t-wing widens the frame of the reel. It's why I refuse to buy the zillion tws.

From what I have heard is that Daiwa was able to narrow down the tws for the Steez, but until a side by side comparison can be made I will not be holding my breath in anticipation.

Outside the grooving issue that has been addressed, what is the negative associated with the TWS system?

Nothing really negative at all. It's just marketed as this mind blowing design that gives you a large increase in casting distance over a normal line guide.

I dont like the widened reel frames.  When i went from tatula to the new-to-me TDZ my mind was boggled.  So much easier to hold tdz.

They lost the plot a few years ago when they bumped the prices of their reels to ridiculous levels. If this reel has 3D brakes it will actually justify a higher price. Im actually very interested in buying one now  depending on a few factors.

I hear ya, it's kind of funny every year they say the reel is X% lighter than previous model, and casts Y% better.  Seems like by now they should be weightless and cast to the moon.

Reels have as many catch phrases as new cars.

This is also the norm for the golf industry.

If I gain 20 yards with the driver each year, why can't I hit it 600 yards?

I'm another that prefers the Type R over the standard just for its looks and the higher gear ratio.  Makes it is worth the extra $30-$35 to me.

I was in Cabela's today and just had to seek one of these on the Tatula out just to see how it works.

Here we go again. Knocking a reel before anyone has even laid a finger on it. For starters I think from this one isolated picture this reel looks incredible. People, the consumer are the one's who blew this T wing thing way out of proportion. All of my T3 variants have SV spools in them and they are incredible casting machines. No denying that. Wasn't the idea behind the T Wing to decrease line angles so you can can achieve the same cast regardless where your line guide was when you disengage the reel? If people were expecting to gain 20 yards on a cast the fault and disappointment is there own imo. Daiwa isn't ruining anything imo. If you don't want a T Wing Steez there are plenty of other Steez options readily available. I for one am looking forward to several Daiwa new releases this year. Alphas Air, Zillion SV TW and this. Haters gonna hate. Yes, I'm a fan boy

Steez= Ferrari

Steez TWS= Ferrari with a bumper sticker.

I'm sure it will be a winner though.
