I've always stayed indoors when it rained because I don't really have any waterproof gear but everything I've read about how good the bite can be with some bad weather makes me want to try fishing in some downpours.  Do any of you have some opinions or reviews, both good and bad, about some of the rain gear avaialble to fish in?  Waterproofing, range of motion when casting, pocket storage, etc.  I would be fishing from shore and wouldn't bring a backpack, but a couple of 3500 sized Planos that I could fit into the pockets of the rain jacket.

I went to the local BPS and they only had thier BPS jackets and some Frogg Toggs.  The 100MPH suit seems a bit much, the Pro Qualifier is almost spot on but the online reviews are mixed, the Bone Dry jacket seemed like a good option but the online reviews were terrible about leakage.  The Frogg Toggs felt too stiff, like starched polyester. I tried looking online but there's too many "non informational" reviews or reviews from people who haven't tested the jacket out in the elements.  Some brands I've looked at are BPS, Cabelas, Gill, Simms, Under Armour, Stormr, Huk, Frabill.  The Simms Contender seems to be the strongest of the lot, but was wondering if anyone here can provide their experience with various pieces of rain gear?

I have the Bone Dry.

Last year on the road trip to Toledo Bend it rained alot.

Trenchal down pour stuff.

I was soaked by the end of the day.

I realized later that my wife had washed my rainsuit.....greatly reducing it ability to repel water.

I have since coated it twice with water repellant spray......have not used it again....but will in the next couple of months.

I think that is why my Bone Dry failed me....we will see.

Goretex....Money well spent. Mines served me well for 9 years now.

For warm weather rain - late spring & summer - I like my Frogg Toggs.   They keep you dry and they breathe, so you don't get sweaty.  For those cooler & cold times when it rains there isn't any substitute for GoreTex.    Good Gore Tex is pricey - that's the way it is - deal with it.

I like my Guide Wear suit.  I've taken care of it and it is I don't remember exactly how old it is - At least a decade.

I got the h20 extreme softshell (the black ones) and they are freaking awesome.

I have two Columbia rain jackets, my latest purchase was their Sleeker offering.  It's cut a little big, which allows layering for cooler days and doesn't restrict movement.  When they say rain proof, you can take them at their word.  A steady downpour has no chance against this lightweight and drawstring pants are also available. It doesn't compare to my Doctor Downpour for warmth, but it's much better suited for our favorite sport.

For cold, rainy days, nothing beats my 100mph gear.

Anyone have experience with Simms? Not trying to hijack the thread just want to throw another name in the mix without starting a completely new topic.

I used to really like the froggs until I started having issues with the zipper. Its made of plastic. So it doesnt seal properly anymore.

Don't know if they just started using the cheaper parts, but my 4/5 year old jacket has metal.

Wont go with them again.

Buy Gortex once, cry once.

Has anyone on this thread had experience with Columbia Rain Gear, specifically their Gale Warning Suit? I know their lighter weight items are of high quality, but I'm curious about the Gale Warning lineup specifically?

I just purchased Frog Toggs Pilot rain suite.  Wow!   Love it.   I've owned Cabelas Guide wear suits and Gortex.   Was out in a steady rain all day with the FT Pilot rain suit.  Absolutely love it and best bang for the buck I've had for a very long time.
