Thought I would post this topic to warn you how our health care system works when you are on Medicare.

My brother was 73, a year older than I am. Just after Labor Day, Bob fell while working on his hill side home and broke his upper femur near the hip joint, crawled about 150' uphill to get back in his home to make a 911 call for paramedics. My brother was hard of hearing and lost his hearing aids during this event, he was dirty from working on his property, appeared to be retarded and homeless, he wasn't either.

Bobs leg was a mess and to repair it they simply removed the top of the femur similar to a partial hip replacement. My brother lived alone and didn't want to return to his home alone after recovery, so we put his home up for sale to cover assisted living facility costs.

Everything was going OK until he became septic from a urinary infection caused from the catheter during the leg surgery that was still in place.

Sepsis can be fatal, Bob was rushed again to emergency, then ICU and managed to rally, however he now had MRSA blood infection, Pnuemonia  along with the urinary infection. Medicare dectates how long recovery in a hospital can be and Bob was discharged within 5 days to a nursing care home. My brother managed to survive another sepsis and ICI, however the 3rd event he was too frail to survive and passed away on the 11th at the age of 73. I believe the fact he couldn't communicate due to poor hearing and being on Medicare combined with minimum hospital length of care contributed to his death. RIP Bob, I miss you!

I am sorry for your loss. I learned a long time ago with my parents that the system is broken. I will keep you and yours in my prayers.

So sorry for your loss, Tom. I understand how you feel about our current system. I'm not sure why I have coverage with the way the deductibles work.

Anyway, that's another conversation for another day...My condolences to you and your family.
