I'll echo the spell check and also have someone not 17 proofread if you are serious about it.  And if you really want to get your name out there, fish in the big kayak tourneys like the KBF world championship or whatever it is called.  That event attracts the big boys in the kayaking world.

I think J.T. Bagwell posted a great post on getting sponsors on the Forum.

Try to "search" it out.

Difficult to get sponsors but keep trying.

Remember, you have to prove to them that by sponsoring you they can expect a jump in their sales.

LOL, but so very true.

I have 19 y.o. son, ever since he got first cellphone I would not accept texts from him that did not have proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and NO shortcuts. I think this reinforced some parental bounderies and burned into his mind the proper way to communicate when getting older.

Now for my wife...."for getta 'bout it.......her texts are a case study in current hieroglyphics. She blames small keyboard and I gave up the fight with her years ago:)

I see a lot of young guys who are looking for sponsorships. I get that being young and broke makes it tough to buy fishing gear, but I'm curious as to why you think that some company would give you stuff?  Do you know anybody at all that gets gear as part of a sponsorship that is not already a professional fisherman?

Unfortunately, this isn't an anomaly.  It's indicative of the type of sponsor requests I get more and more these days.

With the way the world/schools/parents have gone its a miracle any kid can read and understand directions, spell, or work a basic math problem. I see the same type of issues with kids tattin their body into oblivion but cant write a sentence and then wonder why I don't want them as my employee. Someone got their priorities mixed up. First you get educated then you can realize the implications of making a canvas or a pin cushion of your body. 

Nothing makes me take my business elsewhere faster than a waiter/waitress thinking he/she is going to serve my food with steel stuck all through her/his face,arms and God knows where else. I see them playing with the metal then chewing the ink pen then they think they are touching my plate. Nope go get educated on germs. I am out of there. 

The same applies for sponsorship. Why would any reputable company want you speaking for them if you cant be understood, Speaking clearly, being able to write properly, looking presentable, and being reliable are very important along with knowing about fishing etc..  If your going to represent them and expect to be rewarded for it you need put the best business face you have on. 

Also never ever under estimate first impressions. Make that first one count you may never get a second look.

All the years I've spent fishing and working my way up the ladder from the deck to the wheehouse on charter boats, I've recieved a few items.  Why, because they wanted honest feedback about a product and wanted their equipment where it would be used and if any weak links were found they could address the issue, not to mention having their products in the hands of people who fished for a living is a great way to get it out there.  Now, I never asked for someone to give me free stuff or sponsor me, but when they ask of course I'll try it, but thats the difference, your actions must speak to someone willing to put their product in your hands and help either give feedback and offer suggestions on their product that they may not have thought of and then showcase their product in a positive light when asked about it from other anglers.  I try and teach my oldest son who is 11 right now NOTHING IS FREE.   Everything must be earned.  Let your actions do the speak for you, visit some bigger tournaments, and make contact with people in the industry.  Then when that time comes they will let you know they are interested in you.

The guys I know with sponsors have ALWAYS been approached, never solicited.

There are several types of sponsorship and endorsement opportunities out there you need to figure out what type of sponsorship would benefit you at this stage in your sport. 

A sponsorship is a mutually beneficial relationship between you and the sponsor. This means you both need to profit from the relationship for it to be successful and more to the point, worth it for the sponsor. 

Before you ask a sponsor for anything you need to be able to show them how you will have a positive impact on their product or service. How you will increase sales, how you will increase brand recognition of their product, how you will increase their foot print in a new territory or with a new market. 

This process will start with YOU. You must build your worth...Be sponsorship worthy...having a logo on your shirt will not be enough..winning a couple of club events will not be enough, winning in and of itself will not be enough..

Have a strategy and educate yourself on the sponsorship process...Some good books are The Sponsorship Seekers Toolkit, and The TASK Sponsorship Guide they weren't too long and they were to the point and easy to read.
