TrevorKFishing Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I just ordered a Megabass Levante series flipping rod and was wanting to get some opinions on reels that are out on the market. I know the Levante is a US Megabass rod but I was really wanting to look into getting something JDM for a reel, I would like to say below $250 and wondering what some of your opinions are. I looked into the Megabass FX68, and multiple daiwa reels wanted to get some opinions before I spent money in a market that I'm not fully fimiliar with. Thanks! Quote
5fishlimit Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I think this would look spectacular on that Levante. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281894114843?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Or, if you are right handed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Megabass-FX68R-ROSSO-RIGHT-HANDLE-Bait-Casting-Reel-Japan-Limited-Model-/281576150150?hash=item418f3f1486:g:9IQAAOSw3xJVdXyT Quote
greywalls Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Hard to go wrong with the FX... Check out the Daiwa Alphas SV, as well. I like Daiwa, but it's a coin toss. Quote
TrevorKFishing Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 I really like the look of the FX and I'm sure they would balance nicely with the Levante, are they comparible to the T3? I owned the ballistic, yes the cheap one, but loved fishing it until it got noisy! Thanks for your responses so far Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 14, 2016 Super User Posted January 14, 2016 Are you want a reel more fore casting or flipping/pitching? There are a lot of JDM reels that could be put on that rod but it really boils down to what you want to do with it? Another option would be the Shimano Exscence DC which is right around your budget and matches that rod to a "T". The weight of the reel should help balance out a bigger and more powerful rod like that. I have 2 and from the sounds of it several board members here have purchased one over the last few weeks. If you are a balance freak take some of the reels you have on hand currently and try them on the rod to see where the balance point is with reels of varying weights. This will give you and idea of where you want to be with reel weight. Sounds like Shimano and Daiwa will have some new reels released over the next few months. If you are not in a hurry you could wait to see what comes out and their prices and specs to see if something else might catch your eye. 1 Quote
TrevorKFishing Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 I will definitely look into the shimano, I really was thinking megabass/daiwa. I am a big fan of my zillion and as i said above my ballistic with the T3 system, I even considered keeping it cheaper with the JDM Tatula. I am planning on this reel being a true flipping setup, with jigs generally at 1/2 oz and above. Quote

If your a fan of the old Zillion reels based on the TDZ frame, do some research on the new SV-103, might stretch your budget just a little. Quote
Hogsticker Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 This is the reel you want. I sure am looking forward to it! https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=2&nv=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.daiwaweb.com/jp/fishing/item/reel/bait_rl/zillion_sv_tw/index.html Quote

I bought the same rod (Levante Perfect Pitch) a few weeks ago and paired mine with a Shimano Exsense DC. It looks like they were made as a combo. It's right at your price range, $250 shipped on Digitaka. The reel was designed for braid, but has various other DC settings to accommodate other lines. It is also a little bit heavier of a reel which balances nicely with the beefier Perfect Pitch. Read Tackle Tours review of the Exsense, it's right on in my opinion. -JC Quote
